first off they let a single satellite take out their communication ship during entry? if your answering a call from space you must assume that they are using satellites no?
No argument there. It's the equivalent of driving across the country and then having a fatal accident in your own driveway.
blunder 2. they let "non threatening" targets live?
you can argue they aren't hostile or whatever but i dont understand this reasoning....they let the computer nerd escape with the sat phone to contact the ship and let them know the aliens plan. then the nerd comes back and helps kill one of the aliens at the end
when they come to rescue the captured alien they could've laid waste to the ships men but they didn't. only let them come back and kill them at the end.
none of this makes sense since you see a few flashes of the aliens on other planets blowing crap up
The aliens were violently hostile, but I think this was just a recon force. As you say, we see from the mind meld what they have done to other planets and there were a heck of a lot more than just five ships. I think they probably sent out recon forces to see if a planet was good to take over. So it's not so strange they were conserving their ammo-they had to hold out until reinforcements arrive. When they went to rescue their guy off the Navy ship, there was no shooting, so they held off on wasting their ammo.
As to the alien that let the scientist go, that looked like a smaller alien than the big fighters. Maybe it was a medic, or a communications officer, and never expected to have to come face to face with the enemy, and it just wasn't up for killing anyone. That's the only explanation that makes any kind of sense to me.
