it's really pretty decent
had this movie not been associated with the board game, which people seemingly just couldn't get past, it's really a pretty fun, well-made summer movie. i liked it personally more than Battle LA

shareThis was a fun and entertaining action/scifi movie. No it wasn't a groundbreaker or an award winner and of course it could have been less clichéd, yet it was enjoyable for all that.
I enjoyed Battle: LA in similar fashion. Entertaining action/scifi movie, and again, yes of course it could have been better, but it was still fun. Almost like a Black Hawk Down, without the drama of real-life events.
Take out the drama of reality and the movie is better? Really?
If that isn't an indictment of the basement level IQ of movie going audiences, I don't know what is.
I want to be what I was when I wanted to be what I am now
I never said Battle:LA is better than Black Hawk Down, of course its not.
shareI liked it more than Pacific Rim for some reason.
Manos
"Been hittin' the Thighmaster,
Torgo?"
I actually enjoyed this movie when I saw it. Is it the greatest movie out there? No, but I was entertained by it. I knew what I was getting.
Man, I never knew that being a movie fan was synonymous with being a crybaby.
All I need is one mic...
Actually so did I, now that I finally got around to seeing it. Pacific Rim is storywise and production value wise just as mediocre as Battleship - but both are nevertheless fun to watch. It baffles me then, how the other one is rated way higher despite sharing many of Battleships' perceived flaws - like a couple of poorly performing actors or scientific inaccuracies (nuclear reactors don't work that way, even if they're "analog".)
Oh well, I suppose there are bigger injustices in the world, but still bugs me.
This movie is really getting too much hate. I'm just echoing everyone else really, but it is not that bad of a movie for what it is - a brainless action film. Only thing I could fault it for is that it perhaps takes a bit too long with the buildup, but then again...
If anyone who has not seen the movie yet reads this - give this film a chance. You might actually like it, if you're not too fussy about details and scientific accuracy.
No it's not decent at all. I had to turn it off after they took the USS Missouri out of Pearl Harbor scene, I just sat there with my jaw hanging open. I know it's a popcorn fantasy movie not to be take seriously but it was just so overwhelmingly insulting to my intelligence I couldn't take any more of it. The fact they were able to start up the Missouri like they start a car, the horribly bad CGI that had the ship traveling at what seemed like 100 mph and then finally the dropping of the anchor and the Missouri drifting like it was in Fast and Furious was just so stupendously stupid I couldn't take anymore.
It's obvious the movie is geared towards teenagers who could care less about reality, or even physics and don't care to use their brains (what little they may have).
No, No No NO! you got it all backwards.
IF the producers didn't feel the need to attach this movie to a board game, IF they made a regular alien invasion movie with the Navy in it, If they didn't add a bunch of stupid puns and one liners about "Battleship" If they didn't use the "OMG NO RADAR" thing as the plot,
Then yes, it would have been a fun summer movie.
Don't blame people for "Not seeing past the board game" part of the movie.
If anything the people that thought it would be a good idea to make a movie based on a freaking Board game are the ones that ruined this. This COULD have been an okay movie.
This could have been okay to watch. but all the CRAP they added as nods to the game is what ruined it for me.
The Aliens in my opinion sucked. They looked awful. They looked like they belonged in the Hobbit or something.

I think it was "ok" (the effects were great tbh) but they lost me when they dusted off the USS Missouri with a handful of veterans, this was just too retarded.
shareI thought it was just a metaphor that the movie is based on battleship game, but then I saw it heh. It's funny though, I watched it on TV and they played Starship Troopers right after Battleship, and you could really see the parallels. I think the movie is actually packed with irony, which I enjoyed a lot, but it sort of went over peoples heads. I seriously cracked up at the whole 'murica vibe that just kept escalating with every new scene.
