rihanna was pretty good

i'm really annoyed by all the people who are saying she wasn't. i found her surprisingly good as an actress, which is why it bothers me SO MUCH that people are dogging her for taking this role. granted, i like rihanna as a singer too, but i'm not afraid to admit when one of my favs does a bad job. i actually thought she would bomb, but i found her performance a pleasant surprise. she was cute and tough and did the role justice.

it makes me think people who constantly criticize women like rihanna for crossing genres just have a serious chip on their shoulders.

I thought she was great too. "Battleship" has become one of my guilty pleasure movies and I think she was really good in it, especially since acting is not her primary job. I confess that the only things I knew about her before seeing her in this movie were the song "Pon de Replay" (did I spell that right?) and the whole nasty Chris Brown domestic violence situation. It wasn't until my 2nd viewing of the movie that I even realized it was her. I think it helped that she wasn't the main focus of the movie and was only playing a small, but important, role. I found her completely believable.

I agree. Rihanna did a great job, and exceeded my expectations. I'm not a fan of her music, but she seemed like she buckled down and became a part of this production in fine order.

I can't fault her for the Chris Brown thing, although I understand those who might. I fault Chris Brown for abusing the qualities of the female which lead them to stay around in conditions like that. It isn't that the females are weak, IMHO, it's that the fecal stains like Chris Brown are abusing the qualities of the female who wants to fix things and repair relationships, at least in a general sense.

Battleship isn't 2001, not even close, but it's a fun theme park ride, I mean it's based on a kid's game for god's sake, we weren't expecting Blade Runner. But it's even good on rewatchings, at least when I'm doing computer work or something in the background.

Some of the scenes always get my attention, especially cutting the Missouri free and heading into the final act. But Rihanna is great throughout.

The movie was so bad that Rhinna wasn't so bad.

She did her job adequately. If she'd just been an unknown face and not someone already famous for other stuff before acting in a movie, people would never have complained about her acting - they would just have argued for pages and pages on, debating whether or not she was hot.

i thought her performance was horrible and a joke, and it has nothing to do with her being a woman, or crossing genres. Of course, I know who she is but I have never heard one note from her singing career so I have no negative opinion. That's cool that you liked her, but just because someone didn't like her in this movie doesn't mean it has anything to do with crossing genres, etc. if she wasn't Rihanna, she would never be in this movie, so her singing career got her this gig, not her acting ability.

ohhh so "that's rihanna".. okay it explains why I though " omg some model girl in the navy with heavy makeup and all".. but yeah that explains why I thought it was so unrealistic..
