Is it realistic that the aliens would use the same colors as us humans, i.e. red for threat and green for harmless?
Seeing that they are very sensitive, almost blind, when exposed to direct sunlight, wouldn't one expect them to have a different perception of colors than us?
If they perceive colors differently than humans, how are they supposed to portray it?

Colour is colour, it's a fact of light. What we see as colour depends on how the sun's radiation is affected by our atmosphere, and it also depends on living beings' eyes to be able to distinguish the colour in the first place. If the aliens have eyes that read light, which they did, then they'll see colour to some degree. The issue here is why they would associate the red/bad and green/good the same way we do. It would have made more sense to have some sort of alien language on their screens translated for us in the form of subtitles.
shareAs idiotic as this movie is, I don't think the red/green thing is an issue. Movies have to communicate with the audience, so that they can follow what's going on. The red/green thing is a common way of doing that, even when it's not 100% plausible. Really, I'd let this one slide.

It's interesting you bring that up. I work on operator interfaces for a living and a recent trend in the industry is to move away from identifying problems by color only and adding in different shapes to differentiate.
