In the Next Room

Very reminiscent of In the Next Room, a very funny play from Sarah Ruhl.

Will she be credited, or are they claiming this to be a different story?

This is a different story just set against the same events in history. As far as I am aware the script for the movie has been around since well before the play it was just held up in getting funded.

I've seen both. Saw the film at tiff last summer and the play was mounted at The Taraggon theatre in Toronto at the same time.

In the late 19th c, people were playing with electricity and finding all sorts of wonderful and not so wonderful things they could do with it.

Then there was all that Victorianism going on. And science and medicine and psychology.

Great fodder for stories. That both these scripts come from this source material is their only similarities.

HYSTERIA is a fun film.
IN THE NEXT ROOM I found to be a little dull and it seemed to be trying too hard to be "smart" and important.
