Rated R?

you had to be 11 to see it here in Norway

reply

It baffled me, too, here in Denmark (at least on the DVD) is says 7 years.

...just sayin'...

reply

I can't imagine showing this movie to a 7 or even an 11-year-old. What would be the purpose in doing that?

reply

It has nothing to do with purpose -_- It just means that mum and dad don't have to put Jason and Jennifer to bed before they watch the movie, because there's nothing in it that will scar kids.

Don't mistake hate speech for free speech. Remember, hate speech kills!

the US MPAA ratings board hates movies where women are shown having pleasure. since that is the basic premise of this movie-R (lucky it wasn't nc-17!)

basically it breaks down like this:
Women getting pleasure is bad!
Gay people having sex in ANY arrangement is bad!
Comedic “boys being boys” get away with anything. Aren’t they charming.
Horror movies where women get their breasts ripped off is ok,
but showing pubic hair is bad.
Women depicted as real is bad;
women disembodied, bloody and helpless is good.

What is acceptable: Men engaging in violent acts, antiseptic play-violence that doesn’t account for the bloody casualties, sexualized violence against women and women fetishistically wielding violent instruments.

What is unacceptable: The repercussions of violence, sex with an emphasis on sexual women, homosexual sex, pleasure.

Oh, I agree, i still think the ratings are ridiculous and sexist.

though actually it will effect the marketing/release of a movie if it is R or NC-17 (especially nc-17; it may not even go into wide release!)

reply

Wait sexist towards guys or girls because the ratings system shows more respect for the female body than the male body. Also way more guys die in movies than girls overall.

How is the female body respected more? Hollywood is more comfortable showing the female body, compared to male. Is that respectful towards women more, cause I think it's a double standard.

reply

Most people in the US don't even care about the rating

This from the country that went in to meltdown because a pasty-covered nipple was shown during a football match!

reply

Only the "moral right" cared. They happen to be pretty loud though.

reply

*Very* loud. We heard them all the way over here in Australia :-)

Or a responsible parent.

"Horror movies where women get their breasts ripped off is ok,"

Name me one movie like this that is rated less than R, or retract that BS.
