And the fire that was starting to go out...

They deleted a lot of stuff from the script, including more scare scenes. I have no clue why tbh.

That's how long a lot of movies used to run before almost everyone in Hollywood decided that every movie must be a least two or three hours.

I was rather surprised the film wa so shrt since I think the film would have been better if longer.

Yes, but the credits are eight minutes long, and they're more entertaining than the film.
