There's a scene where (Carla Gugino) is describing to (Billy Bob) who this person is, she said he made a lot of money selling contraband in prison and wasn't affiliated with any gang. So when other prisoners came after him, he would "knock them down" one by one (and he kept the tally on his arm). She later says the Warden told her that all he had to do was flash that tat and people would get out of his way.
I wonder how many marks on this tat did it take for others to get the hint?
