Alt Ending
What's the alternative ending?
shareIf you still want to know:
SPOILERS
Killer starts to drive off and calls Lily. She answers and tells him to come home, but he doesn't respond. Instead, he sees Driver driving up behind him. Killer pulls a u-turn and stops in the road. Driver also stops. They stare at each other, load their guns, and speed off towards each other. When they get close enough, they fire at each other but they both crash. Driver's car flips through the air while Killer's car crashes by the side of the road.
Bloodied, they both stumble out of their cars at the same time and meet in the middle of the road. Killer shoots Driver in the leg and moves closer for the killshot. However, he's out of bullets. As Killer tries to reload, Driver shoots him in the chest. He walks over to Killer and says "I'm sorry you didn't get to kill me. I'm cursed that way." Driver holds Killer's hand and cradles his head. He tells Killer that he did good. Killer smiles and dies. Driver gets in his car (which still works) and drives off.
Cicero finds Cop's body and decides to cover up his corruption. Driver scatters his brother's ashes in a lake and drives off. Evangelist gives a sermon about forgiveness. In the desert, we see Lily practice shooting bottles. It's implied that she's going to go after Driver to avenge Killer. While driving, Driver sees that he's being followed by a squad of police cars. It ends with him leading the police on a high-speed chase, leaving his fate ambiguous.
oh my god that sounds freakin awesome
shareThe alternate ending was damn good. I loved it!
Gimbos The Name & Horror Is My Thing!
Hell Yeah it was! I just saw it and it Rocked!
shareI agree. As often happens when you get to see them, the alternative ending is stronger in impact.
shareThe alternate ending of the film is rather sad since Lily continues the cycle of vengeance which is understandable considering how Killer died in the alternate ending. I felt rather bad for James aka Driver that he can't catch a break.
shareIt is sadder but it strengthens Lily's role in the scheme of things, because as we saw earlier in the film, she appeared to possess some formidable skills herself, though no motivation to use them. In the theatrical version there is no closure to her character's story. But the alternative ending adds a twist in the tail, with the door opening to a career change for Lily.
shareThe aspect ratio's slightly off, but here!

Seriously superior.
I can promise you a day of reckoning that you will not live long enough to never forget.
Excellent! Thanks.
shareThanks for that, great ending!
shareWOW. You people have HORRENDOUS taste. I checked out the alternate ending in that Youtube link. That showdown vs Killer is undoubtedly some of the cheesiest, most awful garbage I've ever seen, and so is the final shot of Killer's girlfriend "training" out in the desert with her yellow sports car in the background and with revenge on her mind. Absolutely dreadful.
Thank goodness they went with the original ending and not this cheesy alternate version.
First of all the alternate ending IS the original ending. As in the ending that was in the shooting script. Supposedly it tested poorly and they changed it to let Killer live(Killer and Lilly get their happily ever after) and Driver essentially gets away(leaving his past behind him and riding off into the sunset).
The alternate ending is more poetic and a lot more fulfilling for me. Sure it is a bit cheesy and cliched at times but no more so than the candy filled Hollywood happy ending that they ended up going with.
I far prefer the alternate ending, not least of all because it fits far better with the Forgiveness/Revenge theme of the movie.
PS. - there was also a deleted scene where Marina becomes a junkie again
Since the YT link previously posted is gone, here's a new one. The quality is God-awful, but I didn't find no other.

The western-like confrontation between Killer and Driver was adeguate to the movie's miserable attempt on copying old westerns, like the obvious The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.
The moment where Driver says "you did good" to dying Killer was pretty sweet from him, knowing that all he wanted was recognition for his - although sometimes questionable - hard work (he was quite nuts, remember?).
Minus the terrible scene with Maggie Grace shooting in the desert. She is an absolute joke of an actress and I didn't wish to see any more of her character. If anything, a shoot of her waiting for Killer at their house, hoping for his return, would have been much more fitting.
The scene of a dozen police cars following Driver was bad and out of place, too.
Apart from these two details, which should have been cut or changed, the alternative ending is still cheesy but indeed better; the movie as we saw it seemed incomplete, since it doesn't show what happens to Killer. Would have looked more dragged-on but also more complete if they chose to go the other way. The movie was dragged-on already, so why not make a better finale?
🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾
I'd like to see the alernative ending. For those who talk about Lily? I hated the English guy, his back and current story did nothing but detract from the progression of the story though a hitman character was needed for the circle to be completed. His fiancee then bride was another completely useless part of a sub-plot just to show some motivation for "Killer." They both seemed very out of place, over-the-top and annoying to me. I see others liked it, but I think it pulled the film down for core audiences and fans of the main character, Dwayne Johnson. The film could have been so much more without them written or cast as they were. Some said something about "formidable skills" she had? As if she could take out the intensity and instinct of "Driver". Be serious.
