Car chase...?

I like this film, but that car chase, in the flash-back after the bank robbery, was just... stupid.

He drives around in reverse into an alley and looses the cops, does it slow down, drive normal a slip out of town? Nope, he keeps driving, in reverse and at high speed, flies into an intersection, almost crashes and draws attention to himself. Keeps driving in reverse until he does a 180, and then all of sudden the police just... stop?? There's like a dozen cop cars and they all just sit there and watch as they he drives away?

WTF? Is it just me, or did anyone else find this to be an annoying and poorly done sequence?

I'm thinking this was a failure of the editing department, and the second unit crew that shot all the chase footage aren't happy about the end result.
