animal welfare propaganda disguised as a romantic comedy

so obvious

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5GZIDnMzZQ Why does Canada need a queen?

reply

Uh, yea, life deserves to be saved and protected. The only thing that's obvious here is your self righteous attitude towards people who want to help others, whales, because that's where their passion lies. I'd take animals over humans any day. People like you only further reinforce that.

I say this planet will be much better off with more whales and less sweiland75's.

Well said.

Right, life is 'sacred'

Which life? Why is a whale more deserving then say a polar bear?

What about the downright inhumane disregard these people showed for the polar bears and the rest of the artic food chain which relies, in part, on the few whales too stupid to make it back to open water in time?

Wont some sombody please think of the polar bears and bottom dwelling bacterial scum?

So what's wrong if it is?
At least its different than, African people are poor and helpless and need american help propaganda disguised as action film.

Does global warming save the whales?

Yes the horrible concept of animal welfare is truly disturbing. Being good to animals... wtf.

Where's the disguise exactly? It seems pretty flagrant to me. I don't think anybody, having seen the trailer, could go into this film thinking it's anything but a movie about saving whales.

What I'm wondering is if any of those same people will take exception with the idea of damaging polar ice to save 4 animals.

"At least its different than, African people are poor and helpless and need american help propaganda disguised as action film."

That's a pretty good point actually. That's become a pretty obnoxious cliche.

"Give your pity to the African starving population instead so they can overpopulate this world more. Im sure they are more important for you
Their population will double within 50 years but its soooooooooo sad for the starving children isn't it? Anyone can tell me a reason to care about humans?"

Really? People like you are why there is a hell.

reply

When this story was really happening the world seemed to unite for the survival of the whales. Politics got in the way and I believe the ice-breaker captain from the USSR took matters into his own hands and came to help in spite of what his superiors said at the time. I haven't seen the movie yet and I didn't realize it had taken place over 20 years ago. As far as those talking about Africa we are being over-populated also by people who don't believe in limiting the size of their families for the good of the Earth. Africa is also full of people who still believe in the old wives' tales and beliefs and the tribal lord system.

Do you mean propaganda that's different from all the other propaganda out there? Maybe this is a romantic comedy disguised as animal welfare propaganda.

We humans are responsible for a huge wave of extinctions, partly because we have made ourselves so populous and so ravenous in our consumption of resources that it is necessary to make a great effort to save some (or preferably all) of those species that are close to extinction.

Once they are gone, the chances of reversing extinction would need genetic engineering considerably advanced beyond today's level.

I'm sure this will piss off a bunch of people, but looking at the comparison of gray whales vs. humans, three whales are about 0.000015 percent of today's population, but three humans are less than 0.0000000005 percent of today's population. (I may be off on the exact numbers or how I calculated the percentages, but I think they serve as a fair comparison)
I'm not sure of exactly the level of the gray whale population, but whales are under much greater stress than humans, and they are in greater need of sympathy than the human population, so if this is animal welfare propaganda, more power to it.
