Thats the point, hes trying to act like an politically incorrect arrogant jerk. He even pointed it out in one episode where he said being the an *beep* isn't the draw he thought it would be. Sorta like what Colbert does on his show. If you watch the first couple episodes of Tosh.0 from season 1, you'll notice hes way less of an ass then he is now.
No, I don't think most people realize he's not serious, just like a lot of people don't realize Colbert is a performance artist. Irony really is an alien concept to some people. Its really strange to be sitting next to someone and when Tosh makes one particular joke they don't agree with, they get bent out of shape, even though they were laughing at all the other jokes...which has happened to me with an ex. My ex went a little ballistic after Tosh's Vin Diesel joke, which I thought was hilarious. I like Vin Diesel too, but I get it - stereotypically, he's a meathead action star. My ex, however, did not understand the mocking of the stereotype nor appreciated Vin Deisel being the butt of any joke..nor did he get the irony of the joke when I explained it to him. Eesh.
Some people think Tosh makes fun of people in a very mean and real kind of way, when my impression of Tosh is that he seems like a decent guy with a smart mouth (which some people see as a bad thing) who says "shocking" things to get a reaction out of people. I've never sensed any real malice behind his words...he's more like a kid who learns a new swear word and says it a lot because it makes people gasp. The kid doesn't mean it when he tells you to "fvck off!", but that's exactly why its funny...cuz its not sincere at all.
/end rant.
"Fagerstrom! Get out here! I know you're in there, Fagerstrom!"
he's pretty funny and says most things that people are thinking are would want to say but do not, i doubt hes an obnoxious guy, doesnt seem like it to me, just a guy who says anything to get a laugh, i bet its pretty cool working for tosh, who can say that they went to work, ate bannanas and drank sprite and then rode the zinger till they puked or that the licked, slapped and fondle someone today at work
there are many videos of him off stage and even conducting interviews with other comedians. it is very clear he has a ton of respect for his "elder" comedians and actually comes off as semi-nervous around them.
As a Boston Tosh fan, his clear hate for Paul Pierce is annoying, but it's only there because of 2008 so I let it slide.
Most of it is an act though, his jokes are written by ~10 other people and Tosh is the character they write for.
People that can't see simple truths like Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report is a character and not the real Stephen Colbert, should just be removed from the Earth so that their genes cannot further reproduce.

If hecklers didn't want attention they would keep their mouth's shut.
It was his show, not her soapbox. I'm guessing she was not familiar with his schtick because she should have expected nothing less. It was rude of her to interrupt, so she got the rudeness back tenfold. Should have just walked out if she was that offended. She made the decision to draw attention to herself, therefore she invited herself to become part of the show.

Don't stand up comics learn to deal with people heckling? And when is saying rape isn't funny being a feminazi? If he made a joke about killing Jews or lynching African Americans, people who got upset about that would be what? Militant Jews or Black Panthers?
When on the Daily Show Louis C.K. made a joke about killing Jews, and no one said anything of it... I think he and Stewart were actually discussing Tosh.0, because Louis C.K. got caught up in the whole rape joke fiasco because he posted on his Twitter that he thought Tosh was funny (because he'd watched Tosh.0, he had no idea about the rape joke thing).
The difference with what Tosh did and say what Michael Richards did was that Tosh was clearly CLEARLY making a joke. Michael Richards was not.
You can say something that in one context is funny as hell, but in another context is racst/sexist/offensive. It seems that some people can't see the context in which Tosh makes his jokes, which is weird because he's always been this way. That's his "thing", so the context is always going to be that it's said as a joke.

Yeah lol. If thousands of people cannot see that The Onion's Newsroom is complete satire, then millions will believe that Tosh is simply an *beep* He is a great guy, and, he is damn cute(I am a heterosexual man, but I won't hold back). Although he made a negative remark (again, *beep* or acting?) toward TV series Always Sunny in Philadelphia, I'd like to see him make a guest appearance or two.
