Critics panned it but bloodthirsty fun
Ended too soon though - pity the white witch perished.
shareCritics are pretentious fucking gobshites. Can't stand how they are allowed to dictate whether a film is worth praise or not.
This film was panned by critics back in 2013, but these days critics heap praise on fluff like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those are popcorn films made for entertainment as is this. But the difference is this is better due to a nice short runtime, some solid practical effects (compared to the green screen shite of MCU), more gore, some swearing and even a bit of nudity/sex appeal. Better in every single aspect.
This film clubs every single MCU entry to death and yet here we are. This film got lynched by critics and even most online film communities see it as a 'guilty pleasure' at best.
It's like being in the Twilight Zone. Surrounded by absolute muppets.
It's an unpretentious B-movie and it mostly works. Third act seemed a bit too rushed though.
sharePeople keep mis-using the word “critic” when they are discussing someone who is a mere “reviewer.” Formal art criticism of any sort is predicated on a rigid philosophy that, first, defines what it means by (in this case) “a film” and “good or bad.” The critic then clearly defends her/his conclusions. This rigorous process eliminates personal prejudice from the conclusion. A fucking reviewer—everyone on this site—mewls about her/his taste and preferences. How many feckless posts have you read here that “X is a good actor,” answered by “No, he’s not” and the reply is “Yes, he is.” What a waste of human life.
I have the extended version of H&G, and also Van Helsing and The Brothers Grimm. I like ‘em. Marvel, not so much at all. Stan Lee’s legacy of low-rent borscht-belt alleged humor is like eating a McBurger.
A great movie. Not appreciated enough. Both Gemma and Jeremy are so good in this and is worthy of having more sequels since 2013.
shareIt really is but to some extent there has been a blowback.
