The Rig (2023)

This was a disappointment.

Warning: Spoilers Below

The only pro was the performances by the veteran actors Ian Glen, Owen Teale, and Mark Addy.

I was curious since the trailer and summary was about a mysterious fog and I thought of Stephen King’s “The Mist”.

First episode was a slow-burner, however, episodes two and three were interesting enough to continue watching…big mistake. The last three spiraled down a rant of political preaching.

This was about an intelligent 300 million year old spore that has been dormant and is now awake. The spores provide humans with accelerated healing and resurrection but it is confused and trying to communicate with them to decide evolution or self-defense via destruction.

Final episode ends with a massive tsunami hitting land.

The premise almost mirrors the storyline from The Last of Us, but the Rig's producers decided that casting everyone from Games of Thrones was gonna pay off. I keep expecting to see Kit Harrington to show up as a corporatelackey, or Emily Clarke as murderous siren from the ocean depths.
