You are correct. If the movie showed Traynor as the monster he really was, it would be very hard for people to watch.

To the OP, I don't think it is useful to think in terms of whose "fault" it was. Traynor did batter Boreman and threaten her with a gun numerous times. The mafia did exploit Deep Throat, and Boremen earned practically no money from her claim to fame.

Yes, the better decision would have been for her to stay away from Chuck Traynor in the first place, but that doesn't mean she "deserved" to be beaten, raped, and exploited.

I think you misunderstood the message of the movie, it's about going through some rough times yet coming out on top and that one should not judge a persons whole life based on one mistake
