What's not to like??? (spoilers)

This film is one of those rare pieces of unabandoned cinematic joy.

It struck the right balance between the racing footage and the profiling of Ayrton Senna outside of the cockpit. You don't need to know anything about motor-racing to enjoy this film and that's it's great achievement.

The 40-or-so seater screen where I saw it was packed and we all sat riveted for the duration. There were quite a few moments of shared emotion (gasps, belly-laughs)

The in-car footage is incredible on the big-screen. Remember that those F1 cars were faster and more poweful at certain points during Senna's career than they are today - and you really get a sense of it with the on-board footage. The cockpit view as he hurtles around Monaco during qualifying borders on insanity. Likewise at Jerez in 1990, to take pole position, only a short time after he'd witnessed, visited the accident site of, and reflected on Martin Donnelly's horror crash.

The behind-the-scenes footage of the pre-race meetings added suberbly to the drama, and gave context and insight into the on-track actions of the individuals.

The film buiilds inevitably towards the shocking scenes of the accursed weekend at San Marino in 1994. Most surprising of all was seeing Barichello's accident again on the big screen - how he lived, I'll never know. Even worse than Senna's accident, I thought, was the image of the aftermath of Ratzenburger's crash with him lying still in the cockpit...

Powerful stuff.

I saw the film in a small sold out screen too. It suited the film as the atmosphere from the audience was electric.
