Taking a driver out for the world championship

i think it is quite a normal thing to do

Arguably prost did it to senna in 89
Senna did it to Prost in 90
Schumacher did it to hill in 94 and Villeneuve in 97
Villeneuve tried to sabotage schumachers race at suzuka 97

when it comes down to the closing stages of the year and a driver (schumacher) has a problem (damage in 94 and not a great set of tyres in 97) and the championship rival is surely going to pass and drive away with the championship, dont you expect the lead driver to make some contact to win title

consider the pressure and the effort put in to mount a championship challenge over the year to let it slip away without a fight

Well there's really nothing stopping you unless it's blatant and the FIA strips you of points.

But basically it's your opponent who has everything to lose.

But then where do you draw the line?

Say you have a lead where if the 2nd place guy doesn't win two of the last 3 races and poles at the third you win the Championship. So you decide to be lazy and take him out of the 3rd last race of the season, meaning even if he wins the next two races it's all for not.

That's pretty cold. But you can do it.

In the end will enough people remember you as a fraud or will they look at the Championship count?
