No fatalities occured in Formula One since then (Ayrton's death) ?

One of the final lines of the film is "No fatalities occurred in Formula One since then".

Did they forget the track marshal who died during the 2001 Australian GP ? Sure, no drivers died in F1 since Senna, but the line doesn't specify drivers, and seem to be a generality.

F1 should be extremely proud of its record for driver safety since Senna's death. Kubica showed in Canada 08 (or was it 07?) that you can plough virtually head-on into a concrete wall at well over 100 mph and walk away. That's amazing. But I often think how difficult it must be for that marshall's family that his death has been essentially forgotten. Short of something entering the cockpit (like a rogue wheel in poor Henry Surtees' case) drivers are incredibly safe, pit crews and marshall's are in more danger IMO.

A track marshal also died after a huge pile-up at the 2000 Italian GP.

Amen to that....Kubica's wreck that year was one of the worst I've seen that didn't involve severe injury or death.

There were several big crashes at this weekends Monaco GP. The actual race and practice.

Its that man again!!

And qualifying !! Sergio Perez was on his way to make some very big points at Monaco !!

Webber's crash last year when he went up over another car, car did a somersault and he landed upside down in the gravel. Got out and walked away.

Lots of death's in lots of other motor racing catogories though, Champ Car, Indy car, Nascar Racing, F3, F2, MotoGP etc. It will never be 100% safe, it will only improve............

Zanardi's crash happened in Indycar, not F1.

Jesus I wince every time I see Webber's crash - it made me feel sick when it happened.

Yeah now that visibly shows the integrity of F1 safety measures!

I can recall a similar incident when Christian Fittipaldi's car did flip during a race at Monza http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cciuTNyPyBE.

didn't Brabham driver Elio de Angelis die in F1 testing at Paul Ricard circuit? why would that be excluded?

reply

Elio De Angelis died before Senna, in 1986, which is why he was excluded.

reply

Yes, yes. Thanks.

Nothing has been forgotten, but it's clear that that statement is referring to DRIVER fatalities.

The line in the film is 'No fatalities occured in Formula One since then'. No reference to driver fatalities, just a general statement.
