Williams electronics - Senna robbed

Mansell's William's car was unbeatable in 1992 because of sophisticated electronics such as anti-skid control.
After Senna joined the Williams team in 1993 those same electronics were banned by the F1 ruling body and that French prick in particular.
Senna was robbed!

Was the same for ALL the teams...

"Was the same for ALL the teams..."

not true for Schumi's Benetton apparently......

That is true.

However the Williams car was much more advanced than the others on the field at that time and still is considered the most advanced F1 car ever made even to this day.

It's like a modern Eurofighter. It's one of the most agile fighter planes in the world, but without the computer system the plane is so unstable a pilot it cant fly.

Now compare that to a f-15 which was designed with a electric flight system but also a hydraulic backup system. You take out the computer you can still fly.

The car was never designed to run without the aids. Unfortunately there was not enough time for Williams to basically make a new car from scratch when the electronics were banned. The car was unstable while they tried to make a suspension system that worked with the chassis and engine. Remember the Williams at that time did not have a standard suspension system all they had was the computer controlled hydraulic system they had spent years developing.

The other teams did not have that big a problem as their suspensions were not as advanced.

However it was still incredibly fast. Senna did get Pole Position in all 3 races.

If anything, that alone shows how much ability he had.

Well, first they quoted Senna bemoaning the fact that electronics were increasingly detracting from the contest between driving skills, and then they seemed to imply that the decision to ban some of the electronic aids contributed to making the cars more unsafe.

reply

If you listen to the DVD Commentary they state that the decision to remove the electronics was made before Senna moved to Williams and knew ahead of time that the electronics would be gone. But yeah, robbed.

reply

the biggest problem that Senna faced with Williams is the cars were unstable and didn't race correctly after the electronics were removed..here is what a friend of mine said about that:

***The '93 Williams had the most advanced active suspension ever designed & simply dominated.
For '94 - when Senna moved to Williams - the FIA banned active suspension.

When the standard suspension was retrofitted to the '94 car it was chock full of demons. The thing would go from one extreme to another lap after lap after lap. It was totally unpredictable as to what it would do when it hit the track. ***

What an unfortunate series of circumstances. They took a sophisticated piece of machinery and turned it into an unstable uncontrollable unpredictable rocket with a human being strapped in it.
