He blew it up because it was cooler than making it land and kill the guy who was probably inside it and because the movie wanted to make you think that Royce was dead. This part was dumb, they needed to "surprise" the audience and they didn't care that the scene was going to look stupid when somebody thinks about it for more than two seconds.
Could you explain that more because I don't see how it's stupid.
Royce saving the girl after being selfish the entire movie and thus getting the girl at the end was such a cliche too, I've seen it many times.
it's not like they kissed. She saved his life and was valuable to him. Like he said, he's really not a good guy. For all we know he could've missed his ride because his dilemma was not with saving Isabelle but with making sure the Berserk Predator was killed so the ship, that he knows can be controlled by wrist comps, doesn't simply circle back or blow up. Royce is a survivor, if this film got a sequel I wouldn't be surprised if he flat out told Isabelle that he didn't actually come back for her. Big deal.
