This movie is part.....
Frankenstein, Lolita, The Odyssey, Being there, Her and something like Under the skin thrown in a blender.
Exceeded my low expectations as the trailers didn't really do anything for me and I wrongly thought she was half robot. Not to mention how bad Hollywood has been the last 7 or8 years. Some annoying choices of lens and score, but overall enjoyed the arc of the story and Emma Stone and Willam Defoe's acting.
Requires a big suspense of disbelief obviously and the fantastical sets help immerse you in a sci fi fairy tale state of mind. An interesting take on loss of innocence, curiosity and moral relativism and idealism clashed with reality.
Studies on the duality of man, the faces we put on in society and our based animal selves vs. societal conditioning and cynicism. Simpletons will be distracted by boobies and comical sex scenes and overlook the entire theme of the film. My based-self enjoyed them, while my intellectual-self enjoyed Bella's Journey of discovery. 2:20 min went rather fast. I was hoping for more story tbh. I could kinda welcome a sequel even.
