A film that perfectly could have been canceled, wins the Oscar.

A film that perfectly could have been canceled on social networks, wins the Oscar.

At first I thought that Bella's character had a mental deficiency, in fact the acting is quite stereotyped, the tone of voice, the walk, etc... but then we found out that her character is actually a toddler inside a woman's body. (ok, so it's not offensive anymore)

Then she falls in love (?) with Max and her father EVEN knowing that she is a JUST A CHILD, allow her to get involved with this grown ass man (pedophile much?)

Her father, who was very overprotective, allows this LITTLE GIRL to go out to see the world alone with Duncan, a man she has been knowing for like 2 minutes, and they go fuck around the world, with each other, with other people... There is no coherence in his actions, the father is just like: ok, she should know the world, let her be (considering that 5 minutes ago, he wouldn't even let her leave the house)

That's when I stopped the movie to continue watching it another day but until now I have had ZERO intention or desire to know how it ends.
Maybe she dies? Maybe she commit suicide like the original woman from the beginning? Maybe she has a baby (from so much fornicating) and they transplant the brain of the baby into another body??

I don't know and I don't even care

Actually, Oppenheimer won best picture. Poor Things did get nominated for best picture though and it did get 4 wins in other categories. It's a very good movie but it's probably not for the hyper-sensitive. People will be shocked by the content.

One thing is for certain, Hollywood knows there is an audience for people that want to see material that could get cancelled. They might appear to be on the side of those that do the cancelling, but we know it's just an act, as most things in Hollywood are. lol....

You might not know this but there are similar movies to Poor Things, like for example, Big, that movie with Tom Hanks. He plays an adult with a kid's mind. There was a sex scene in it too but its quite tame compared to what we see in Poor Things. Bella grows up pretty fast in this and is at a mature state of mind by the time she starts having sex. You might have missed that part of the story. A lot of people did.

But even knowing this, the sexuality of the character is not that surprising since she is a full grown woman, you might not have noticed this either. The things is, she's not all there mentally, she's the creation of God. lol...

Although, throughout the entire film we see Bella is many situations that don't seem like the best place for her to be, but she is somehow able to navigate the rough terrain while some of her companions along the way are oblivious to her condition. Hilarious film in my opinion. One of Yorgos' best....

In BIG the woman does not know he's a kid... in Poor Things, Max know

reply

Did Max know? I know he wanted to marry her but I don't think he did anything sexual with her. I'd have to re-watch it to clarify this. But even if he knew, she's still a grown woman and not exactly a child....

It wouldn't qualify as pedophilia anyways.

So when laws are made to make sex with people under the age of consent a crime because they are deemed incapable of informed consent the issue is actually their bodies and not their minds?

reply

I'm not an expert on the sex laws in the "Poor Things" world but in our world, from what I understand, it's all about "age" rather than based on biology, hormone levels, maturity levels and/or psychology. It's assumed that a minor can't consent to sex with someone "older" than they are simply because they're "underage". And since a minor can't sign a contract, buy alcohol, watch a rated 'R' movie etc..etc.. then, obviously, they can't have sex either because, "age".

Of course, this is a movie we're talking about, we're made to believe that since 'Bella' has the body of a grown woman, which makes her over the age of consent, she will have the same desires as a grown woman. For the most part, it's a fish out of water story.

Not sure if this answers your question... but there you have it.

Explain why this would or should get cancelled, using examples of precedent.

(Hint. "Material about challenging topics, like depicting people having irresponsible and abusive parents" is not the answer you think you might need to look for. )

She's only a child in an adult body at the beginning of the film. She is developing towards adulthood at an accelerated rate. For most of the film she's better thought of as a blank slate than a child.

This is sci-fi, people. You just have to suspend your disbelief about certain things, like how a baby's brain can fit inside an adult skull, or how with God dead they were able to put the General's brain in a goat. I agree with its Oscar wins and noms.(and I would recommend the above poster to get help for his pedophile obsession--perhaps expanding their media consumption to the world outside of Fox?)

reply

Since a baby's brain is smaller than an adult's, it should fit in an adult skull with no problem. They probably just added some bubble wrap or packing peanuts to keep it from sloshing around.

Too bad. You missed a pretty good movie. I expected it to suck from some of the comments I read months ago. I enjoyed it.
