Am I mistaken or did the Ruffalo character......(Spoiler)....
avoid any sort of comeuppance for his behavior? Did I miss it? I seem to recall he sort of just slinked away....

shareShe gave all his money away.
shareWhat behavior? He ended up in what appeared to be an asylum if that makes you happy.

Oh crap, I deleted my reply by mistake.
Anyway, Ruffalo's character wanted Bella all to himself and tried controlling her. He initially planned on seducing and abandoning her. I assume that's the behavior the OP was mentioning.
He certainly did that, although she was more than willing to go along for the ride, and she was also planning on it just being a temporary state of affairs. It took two to tango, and they were both eager for the dance.
shareI don't think so. He last appears in the scene where the husband interrupts Bella's wedding to claim her back. If he pops up in any way again after that, I already forgot about it lol.
shareHe was a womanizer who got his heart broken by a whore. He went from being a suave, opulent guy to a sad, whimpering clown who was made destitute by her towards the end.
What more did you want?
