The best mob story EVER

People love the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and Joey Pistone's (Donnie Brasco) infiltration of the criminal underworld, but no mob-related story can hold a candle to this one.

Danny Greene's struggle with the Cleveland mafia is the most colorful chapter in gangland history, and Greene himself is a larger than life character. Brazen, intrepid, and cunning, he stood defiant against an organization that at its height was the 3rd largest in the country. Countless cars and city blocks were destroyed over a period of several years as each side waged total warfare on the other. Greene miraculously evaded every attempt to cash in on his life, and instead grew more lethal and determined. He thwarted hitmen brought in from out of state, either sending them packing or adding them to his staggering body count. In probably his most memorable act, he taunted them in a live news interview!

I'm so happy to see that an earnest attempt is being made to do these events justice on the big screen. An impressive cast has been assembled and each member seems dedicated to contributing towards an entertaining but, more importantly, accurate retelling.

My only gripe is that the filmmakers weren't able, for whatever reason, to shoot this in Cleveland. As a Clevelander, I'm around most of the areas where this stuff happened; I regularly pass the Brainard location where Greene was finally (much to the relief of Licavoli and his clan) brutally assassinated ala car explosion. This would have greatly enhanced the movie's verisimilitude.

Anyhow, I can't wait for this baby to debut...theater release or direct-to-video, I'm there on the first day. Kudos to the cast and crew for realizing this vision!

I thought that was Detroit?

Hey they filmed this in Detroit!
COINCIDENCE?!

Danny Greene lived and died in Cleveland. The film was shot in Detroit, because Michigan gives huge tax incentives to film makers and Ohio does not.
