Racist against Irish people!

This film is RACIST against Irish people! Just because they drink too much doesn't mean we should kill ALL of them!

Water off a ducks back. The most superior race on Earth can be forgiven for the odd drink.

'irish' isnt a race

reply

You're either Irish or you aren't. Someone born with Russian parents sure as hell aint, even though both are white.

in other words, a nationality

reply

I am Russian born. I am the same race as the majority of Irish people. I am different nationality.

The film was no more racist towards the Irish than pretty much any other ethnic group that was talked about in the film. The Irish angle, actually, was dealt with using a good deal of sentimentality which will, for me, as an Irish person from Ireland (just to make that distinction from non Irish born who simply identify ethnically/heritage-wise), make for some eye rolling moments. At some point, the script will come out with something corny and at least a couple of so-broad-as-to-be-inaccurate statements about Irish history and this one didn't fail in that regard but outside of that it was still a good film with a good cast.

Well this thread is stupid.

Also, it's certainly not racist against the Irish,
Danny Greene could be considered as a heroic character,
couldn't really say that for others within the film.

If anything, it champions the Irish.

You’re so cool. You’re so cool. You’re so cool.

I agree with the above as a real Irishman I can say if any Irish people have issue with this dont as (1) you have dumb brit actors like jones playing an wanna be Irishman (2) your only Irish if born in IRELAND and not the USA like greene was, so he is an American not an Irishman as when did Cleveland, Ohio, USA become the thirty third county in the Republic Of Ireland ?

reply

you mean 27th county, right?

For *beep* sake. Please dont present yourself as an "real" Irishman if youre going to be such a retard about your own country.

reply

Well perhaps, but the whole point being that Danny Greene wasn't Irish, and nor were his parents.

Why can't Americans just be American, without having to be Irish, Scottish, Swedish, German et al?

We all have antecedents, but that doesn't bestow their nationality upon us.

Actually, Cleveland has an enormous Irish population.

Danny Greene was a *beep* murderer, extortionist, and major gangster. Not a hero. A fun character though, that's for sure.

reply

he seemed heroic in the movie until i watched the documentary. that says he was a jerk and evil

so watch the doc

I just hate stereotypical movies like this, that all Irish people are drunks or are in mafias or something.
Same thing in shows: red hair, drunk, say 'top o' the mornin' or are cops? lol
