It could be any number of reasons - like maybe Nardi & Danny just concluded a meeting or something --- so his presence there would be raised other questions.
I reality - I'm not sure Danny was ever at the scene when Nardi got blown up... but the police never thought he would have killed Nardi - even though they knew Danny was mostly up to no good.
Danny was a bit of a Robin Hood to the people, however.
