Critical Drinker makes no sense
Sometimes his recommendations are good (Cobra Kai for the first season or so), other times they don't (can't even remember what the turd was he recommended once).
Now, granted, I have only watched the 'intro' so far, but there are already so many points that make no sense, I had to make a post about it. I do plan to give this thing a chance, but it's not looking good.
The points I wanted to make that either bothered me or didn't make sense:
- Terminator with a 'laser pointer' gun. Because it had one in the first movie, we have to now always have it? Terminators DO NOT NEED ANY ASSISTED AIMING, because they are robots, they can friggin' calculate the bullet arrival location in a fraction of a millisecond. Why would they ever need assisted aiming? SO STUPID!
- Terminator can't hit slowly moving target with a darn MINIGUN WITH ASSISTED AIMING (look at where the 'red laser beam' is pointing at all times). WHAT?
- The 'laser pointer beam' is a SOLID LINE at all times. WHAT? It should be just a dot, like in the movie, unless there's lots of smoke, steam, dust or some other pollutant that makes the beam visible. The beam should NOT be visible constantly!
- The protagonist is, of course, a Mary Sue. Because of course it has to be. Can't be anything else.
- The Mary Sue can somehow dodge a hail of MINIGUN bullets shot by a dang TERMINATOR (a super advanced computer can't aim that badly!), just by doing a 'cool bungee jump' into an unexplained, super deep pit (that also makes no sense).
- You can UPLOAD something by plucking an USB stick into the _EYE_ of the robot. WHAT?! That makes SUPER no sense! How would that even work? Even the eyes glowing red makes barely any sense if it's also supposed to be the camera (what benefit is there for filtering everything to be red anyway?), but that it ALSO doubles as USB port.. WHAT?!
- The Mary Sue uploads.. err, virus? Shutdown command? No, some kind of 'soft reboot' that lasts for two seconds. So what the heck was the point of that?
- Super Advanced Killer Robot (I am tired of saying 'Terminator') can GRAB someone's leg, but not CLIMB said leg. Err, why, exactly does it just stay still after grabbing the leg instead of trying to at least psychologically scare the Mary Sue by saying things in some weird voice or.. I dunno, CLIMBING her? To a robot like that, a human body is just another rope easily. So why not?
- Super Heavy, Tough-Armored Metallic Robot (I carried a pouch of tiny coins once, and it was so much heavier than I would've thought, I was barely able to avoid back pain, so METAL IS HEAVY, no pun intended) can JUMP REALLY HIGH when it wants to. These people never heard of the square law or whatever it was? Something this heavy couldn't lift its own weight so easily without being even heavier, etc., let alone JUMP VERY HIGH in the air! HEAVY THINGS CAN'T JUMP HIGH IN THE AIR no matter how 'powerful' they otherwise are, because there is also such a thing as INERTIA!
- Mary Sue can put something in her mouth and STILL sound like she is breathing without any obstructions. Sound doesn't work like that! Try it yourself, put an object of similar size and shape in your mouth and try to sound 'out of breath'. It's NOT gonna sound as unobstructed as they made it sound here - and if she's breathing through her nose (which would be viable otherwise here), it would DEFINITELY not sound like that!
So I have watched the intro and already there are this many (and more, but I can't write everything down) points I absolutely can't accept.. how am I going to endure the rest of this thing?
The music is also very non-musical, non-atmospheric, soulless crap, the visuals are 'dark and brooding', which means there's no color, no beauty, no delight, etc.
The terminators don't look as good as they could, but I have to admit the animation is very well done and the style is decidedly Japanese.
However, since when did Skynet start doing LOCALIZED terminators with proper language IME systems?
I mean, why is there a mixture of english and japanese on the screen, and why doesn't the UI look anything like it does in the movies?
Why is this written as 'Taamineetaa 0' in japanese, but 'Terminator Zero' in english? What does the Zero mean?
As I have often said, the first movie told the story so completely, you can't REALLY make another 'terminator story' without either making it completely irrelevant to what happens in that movie, or by focusing on uninteresting parts of the story (outside of what happens in that movie is all uninteresting unless you somehow MAKE it interesting, in which case you could make an ORIGINAL story and not have to steal from this stuff).
Still, as it is japanese and although I can't understand why Skynet would bother with other countries than USA, I am going to give this a chance. It's pretty interesting thought anyway - what the heck was going on in other countries when the 'nuclear war' happened? Why is Japan involved?
