Written by a woman. Probably why it's not funny.

I can only think of two female writers that can actually write funny movies. The gals that did Legally Blonde, She's the Man, 10 Things I Hate About You, and a few others. Other than those two, almost every single script I read or movie I seen written by a woman that's supposed to be funny disappoints in the comedy area. This one was no exception, and I kept wondering if a chick wrote it. Surprise, surprise, a chick did write it. An unfunny chick that thinks that women falling down for no reason is a real hoot. Uh!

I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't say whether it's funny or not, but I do disagree that women can't write funny material.

Juno and Jennifer's Body in my opinion are freaking hilarious. And they were written by a women. (I know many will disagree, but I thought they were really funny! Totally my kind of humor.)

I think Tina Fey is an excellent comedic writer. Mean Girls is hands down the funniest teen comedy in the past decade.

The woman who wrote the movie Drop Dead Goregeous and Sugar & Spice is great! Both hilarious movies.

Amy Heckerling wrote Clueless. Again,a hysterical comedy.

So just because there have been some bad comedies written by women, doesn't mean no woman can write a good comedy. Plenty of men have written awful comedies.

I don't think it's fair to generalize all women as bad writers. It's actually pretty sexist.

It's such a stupid thing to do to generalize an entire sex as 'unfunny'. There are bad comedic writers in both genders. The worst movies that are passing themselves off as comedies these days after all (date movie, epic movie, vampires suck, etc) are written by men. Please be more intelligent for the sake of society.

THANK YOU!

I personally thought this movie was funny. Others may not. That's okay. Just please keep your sexist generalizations to yourself, kthx.

I agree for the most part. The only funny movies ive seen written by a woman were Legally Blonde and anything by Amy Heckerling

Women can't be funny? That's BS.

Oh Good grief!
Take your sexist remarks and attitude towards women and shove it.

It is not the fact that women can't be funny. There is no need for them to be funny. A good article written by Christopher Hitchens could help you understand the point. Why Women Aren't Funny- http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2007/01/hitchens200701

reply

I love Christopher Hitchens, but he's not totally correct in his article. Sure, women don't use their humor on men as much, but that doesn't mean women aren't funny. I lived in a women's dorm, where no men were allowed, for two years, and the laughter was constant. But of course men don't want to see women as being funny. They'd rather imagine us having pillow fights in our underwear. Basically, men's perceptions of women are skewed by their wishful thinking.

reply

He never stated that women aren't actually funny nor capable of being funny. He only stated there is no need for them to be funny even in the evolutionary perspective. Where as for men they have to be funny to impress women. That comes out of a broad understanding not ignoring the humour that women are capable of but there is no need for them to develop it.

I think the biggest giveaway that it was written by a woman was the set of "bullying" flashbacks we see. They're so beyond pathetic in their softness it's unreal because none of them were actually all that bad from a guy's point of view. Someone going "MOOOOOOOOO" in your face, locking you out of a school that for some reason has no other entrance, and a push during a basketball game. Oh my, what scars the poor girl must have!

Thank God they edited out the worst bits of bullying though, because they actually filmed two scenes that involved brutal level of bullying. The first was when the bully JJ actually paints Marni's nails a variety of colours one time, just after she had a manicure too!!!!!! Absolutely beyond evil, almost Hitler proportions. And in another scene JJ curls half of Marni's hair whilst she's sleeping and leaves the other half straight!!!! Oh the humanity! Can you imagine Marni having to go outdoors with hair like that? And she didn't have a straightener at the time, so there was no easy way to fix her hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't think Tina Fey is a funny writer? I find that hard to believe, but humor is subjective, I suppose.

I thought it was funny. Not like roll on the floor funny, but what is? I thought it was good on how girls treat other girls and how high school can be.

1. This movie was funny

2. Regardless, this comic perfectly illustrates the sexism at work here:

> I thought it was funny.

It was not at all funny. I kept waiting all movie for something funny to happen. But at most there were some awkward moments that deserved an uncomfortable chuckle.

> Not like roll on the floor funny, but what is?

Well, any actual funny movie would have at least a moment or two where you might roll around on the floor. This one made me roll my eyes a few times but that's it.

It was just an uncomfortable movie about how women hate other women and play catty games all the time.
