One thing I wish Marnie hadn't done...(Spoilers)

I didn't like the part where Marnie smashed the vase that Will and Joanna had gotten as a wedding gift at their rehearsal dinner. Then, after that, Marnie stepped over the glass and said to Joanna something like, "I've always wondered what it would feel like to finally stand up to you, but now I realize it's not worth it." In light of that particular line, this scene probably would have worked a lot better if, when Joanna begged her not to smash it, Marnie just kind of shook her head, put it back down on the table, and gone into her little speech about Joanna not being worth it.

Anyone else agree/disagree? Would you have broken the vase if it were you?

reply

Definitely agree...it would show she wasn't "high school" again and stoop to her level!!!

reply

I agree with you. In addition, the scene where Joanna dumps an entire bowl of mystery green glop on Marni's head seemed entirely too slapstick. It was like the bowl's sole reason for existence was to be dumped on somebody!

reply

Haha, I agree!!!! I was like, okay, what is a huge cauldron of soup doing just sitting there?

reply

I agree with the OP, but in Marnie's defense the vase was ugly.

If you love, Cheezits and are 100% proud of it, copy this as your signature.

reply

The mystery glop was there so that Will would come in and see that his fiancée was still tormenting his sister. Otherwise, it's just two bratty girls throwing plates.

Your idea is much better...would have been a subtle insight into character development. As it plays, it just made Marnie appear to be mean and petulant.

reply

Well, I kinda understand the hate and revenge thing, it's been so many years and now her arch nemesis wanna marry her brother??

reply

I agree. Marni smashing the vase made her seem childish. I felt sad when I saw her do it. She's much better than Joanna is.

reply

We all agree. It was out of character.

Unfortunately the writing on this film wasn't as refined and it should have been.

And agree that the green stew or whatever was too slapstick. so were the two pool splashes.
