After Marnie falls into the anthill, why does Odette's character call for lard, stat!

If they're worried about anaphalactic shock, you would have the person lie down on the floor on their back and raise their legs about 12 inches.

It's unclear to me what the lard was for. Maybe a topical for her skin? How would that prevent swelling, or inflammation, or itching?

I actually looked this up while watching the movie. Apparently, it does work for the swelling.
