JJ wasn't evil

In the brief high school montage all we see JJ doing is "clean" name-calling and harmless pranks which from an objective viewpoint were genuinely humourous. Her video from the time capsule was hilarious! Nothing JJ did in these moments was a horrible unforgiveable crime! My family did the same things to each other on occasion and was always loving and friendly again the next day! This doesn't sync with Marni's attitude toward JJ, which would have been more appropriate for a person who burned her with cigarette ends and deliberately ran over her puppy. I guess with a PG rating the movie couldn't let the "horrible" person do anything that really was horrible!

^ are you serious? They may seem harmless but they can be emotionally scarring for life. She was evil in my eyes, I just don't get why someone would do those things to someone in high school.

Because people don't think it hurts, but having been on the receiving end, it does and you don't forget it.

Please don't be offended if I'm wrong here, but it sounds to me like you're the bully, not the bullied. I was bullied all through school, and let me tell you, friendly family pranks are one thing, but humliating you in front of an entire student body is completely another. That videotape might have been funny, but imagine if you were watching this as the man who she was about to marry? He had no idea that she was like that, and it became very obvious in the video that she had bullied his sister.

Bullying is bullying, no matter how "PG" it is.

"It's beyond my control."

The difference is that with family and friends the person you're teasing isn't genuinely upset- they know you love them and it's fine. If you thought you'd crossed the line and genuinely made them unhappy I'm sure you'd back off and apologise straight away.

It doesn't matter how the bully sees the severity of their actions. If somebody is made to feel bad about themselves, it's gone too far. As an example, calling her 'Moo' not only affected how Marnie thought/felt about herself but affected how other students saw her too.

I actually thought Marnie held up well. She had zero self confidence due to the bullying but managed to get herself together. She didn't want JJ instantly out of her family, she just wanted an apology. She only flipped her lid when it was clear that JJ both remembered AND was willing to carry on goading her to ruin her confidence again (the MOO bridesmaid gift).

jmarkoff2! You sure do like exclamation points! I'm wondering something! You lived in a family of JJ's you say! Perhaps now you are going through post-traumatic stress disorder from being in such a horrid family and now are always on edge!
