Bullying affects adults long after it ends

For those of you who want to know why people just don't "get over" what happens to them in high school, should read the research

and understand that bullying can create psychological issues for a long time, it is psychological abuse. It is not something that one "sucks up" and gets over. I thought that the portrayal of the bullying and Marni's reaction to it was very accurate. And the fact that once again she was played by this woman and made to feel the guilty party was classic abuse. The bully didn't change at all, she was playing the victim and everyone blamed Marni. I actually was very surprised that the parents took this bullying so laisse fair, but that also happens in real life. That is the reason why bullying needs to be dealt with by parents and by the school, the person being bullied isn't able to deal with it on their own.

So actually I didn't find much to laugh about in this movie. It was painful to watch.

I think the message of the movie is that on the surface, they both overcame their pasts until reminders of it surfaced years later, and then they both reverted to their former selves and had to work it out in order to move on with their lives. The bullying was the thing that prevented both of the young women from truly becoming the best they could have been.

It's very true indeed and I never understand why people do it. It hurts and it's wrong to do. Just be comfortable with yourself and stop judging others!

I agree with you on that. I just had mention that on someone else's post. It is very much relatable and realistic. I cried doing a few shots but I still enjoy the movie very much. You have to realize that bullying even have a long term affect on the bully itself. Joanna was still a hot mess too after high school. She was getting herself together just as Marni was. Its a lose lose situation.
