...Jean-Jaques Annaud's 1986 film adaption of "The Name of The Rose" : an older, astute detective with a Sherlock Holmes vibe (William of Baskerville / Augustus Landor) and his younger disciple (Adso / Edgar Poe) investigating a series of gruesome murders in an all-men secluded and cloistered community in a cold harsh environment (an unnamed Abbey in the north of Italy / West Point military academy), old books and coded messages are involved, the even older and wiser mentor and old friend of the detective (Ubertino de Casale / Jean Pepe) sharing his insights into the situation, murders made up to look as satanic rituals, the local authorities who called on the detective to solve the murders in the first place berating him for his lack of progress and blaming him for letting the new murders happen, the fire at the end...
