What was this 'evil thing?'

The only thing i'm confused over is this film. One minute you think it's a human then the other minute you see a door closing basically all on it's own and the noises this thing makes.
I'm really confused by this film, I liked it but i'm just a bit confused!
Did anyone else understand what it was? :)

My take on it was it was the driver of the van, videotaping the 5 characters using night vision going through the house while they were sleeping.

Because the night vision has very narrow field of view, it only appeared the door was closing by itself, you just couldn't see the person.

It was the Alien who was left behind from Signs of course.. duuh!

Being an expert in the field of the Paranormal, I can, with confidence conclude the "evil" in the van was most certainly Aunt Gale and as far as the door closing on its own? It WAS in fact the house doing it after realizing it was involved in the production of such a monumental piece of crap!

No night-vision was on during the door closing scene. The house lights were off but everybody was using flashlights for illumination. Mark was facing everyone with his flashlight on. He was blinded to the darkness in his periphery so he couldn't see the perp behind the door.

I don't think there was anything supernatural about it. We simply didn't see who slammed the door because of the camera angle. I think there was at least three (human)stalkers to cover the ground that they did. They had followed them from the city, and who knows, they may have even known one or more of the five students. It was simply an elaborate stalker plot, playing a game with their victims. Otherwise there would have been no reason to leave a vhs tape on their front porch to show that they had been followed.

I agree with Wilkolak. I was saying to myself the whole time. There has to be more than one person. How the hell is the van going to be leaving and someone flashing a light in the front door/side window at the same time? Why is it that not one character thought about that? No inkling of common sense between the five of them.

It's nobody's business but ours.

I actually sent an email to Dominic Perez (writer, producer)telling him how much I enjoyed the movie, and he wrote back! Really nice guy!

I assumed there was more than one bad guy after learning that their car had been stolen. A single car thief couldn't have gotten there on foot. Nor was a thief's car left behind.

It was that thing he ate in the diner. That was pure evil.

The only thing evil in the making of this film is that the film makers didn't have the decency to throw in a scantily clad/naked scene with one of the chicks as a reward for watching this POS movie...

reply

Sir, I strongly suggest you do not watch Devil's Pass...

Lol, is that a hint??!! Looking it up now...

The Evil Things were the kids. The video delivered to the police was labeled "Evil Things." Therefore, whoever murdered them/kidnapped them thought them evil. The film is a commentary on perspective, hence the twin storytelling via the aggressor's own video camera. The film turns the "found footage" idea on its head. I only wish it resonated with more subtext. It's rather empty.

reply

Evil Thing is how the tape was labeled when delivered to FBI.

The guy was probably hidden behind the door then closed it and killed him.

Producers just didn't wanna spend on killing scenes so they skipped it.

I think it's up to the viewer to decide maybe? That's what I gathered from it. I actually liked this movie, it was creepy!

Also, I think the "stalker(s)" was somewhat after that Cassie girl, the brunette dating Mark. Maybe an ex of hers? Or just a crazy but clever stalker. Why so much focus on her?? Especially at the end.
