Mapping roles from old to new

They have new characters, but they seem to play the same old roles.

Frasier's father => Frasier's son
Niles => Frasier's colleague
Daphne => Frasier's nephew
Roz => Frasier's son's friend with the baby
Any of Frasier's old bosses => Frasier's new boss
And of course
Frasier => Frasier

How did this happen?

It is clearly Niles => Frasier's nephew

Daphne was a British maid who thought she was psychic. I don't think there is going to be another her on this show.

Even when David has a girlfriend I don't think it will be someone like her.

Really? I thought the nephew David acted just like his father Niles. The actor had his mannerisms down pat.

Yeah, being a son he should, right? But in terms of the interpersonal relations role played.
