What was the dog playing with??

Not that it's a big plot point in the movie or anything... I'm just more curious and amused...

So after the first third of the movie, Riddick and the dog are walking cross-country and the dog is playing with / chewing on something. Riddick finally get the dog to drop it and... it looks like a "golf ball" !?!

First I thought it was a stone with the dog's teeth marks in it; Then maybe its part of a bone, like a femur head. Finally, after looking real close, it looks like it has dimples, like a "golf ball" ???

Where the hell did a golf ball come from to end up on that planet in the middle of fumbuck??

It was a golf ball , the point of the golf ball was letting riddick know that human life had been on that planet , it wasn't too far after he found the merc station , hope this helps u make more sense of the golf ball
