Completely ignored the first movie, a lot of inconsitencies

My first disappointment occured minutes into the movie when I realised that it won't have the same style and atmosphere as the original. I guess the first movie was slower paced, less cartoony and the character designs were uglier (in a good way). It just had a distinctive style whereas this one is more generic.
But my biggest problem with the movie is countless inconsistencies. So many inconsistencies. Time traveling works different depending on the situation. Characters' backgrounds are different from the earlier movies. I guess it would work as a stand alone movie better than as a sequel to the first one, cause neither K or J are the same characters here.
And what pissed me off the most is O. Where did she come from and why is K in love with her? Didn't he leave his wife (and his personal life) to become a man in black? Wasn't he always looking at her on the computer? Wasn't he always wanting to leave MIB to go back to her? Would he really be in love with another woman A FEW YEARS AFTER the establishment of MIB?
The writting in this movie seems so lazy to me. The writers ignore the past just so they could add whatever they want to the story. They don't know the rules of the time travel that they created. They either rushed it or didn't care, but they left so many obvious plot holes.
I guess this could be a fun and enjoyable film if you suspend your disbelief, but I couldn't this time around. The polt holes and incosistencies were too jarring for me.

Maybe this was a reboot?

If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong!

the worst plot hole, depending on the incredible fragile Saturn V to put the shield on orbit, MIB headquarters was swarming with aliens. How did they get to Earth, Amtrak?! Putting something into orbit should have been child's play! 'Hey Queez'Xoink! Do me a solid and drop this off in high orbit on your way off the planet would ya? Gracias'. How did they get a freaking Moon-prison built?

Or ask NASA to put the little gadget on the rocket istead of seding two agents with jetpacks on a dangerous mission to do it. Both MIB and NASA belong to the government, so why do it in secret? Send an army to defend against Boris, what's the problem?
The shield itself made no sense. If they always had this shield the earth would have been protected from the bugs in the first movie.
It seems like the writers of the film didn't ever watch the first film or completely forgot about it.
This movie makes so little sense it bothers me a lot. I could nitpick this movie for hours without running out of things to say. No other film bothered me liek this before. Prometheus - awesome, Lord of the Rings eagles - no problem, Men in Black 3 - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH *beep* this movie. There's something wrong with me, don't take me seriously.

Couple of points to address you issues:

1. I'm fairly certain the Arcnet shield was specifically for the Bogladytes, and possibly other similar type invasions. The Bug came to Earth on a single ship, not with an invasion force. My guess is the Arcnet had some sort of effect on the Bogladytes, and was designed for holding off large scale invasions. Singles ships like the Bug's and Sirleena's could probably get past it, as well as lasers like that from the Arquillian battle cruiser.

2. Agent Kay seems to have gotten involved with O several years after MIB was started. So he had been separated from his wife for a long time by this point. And he had no intention of leaving MIB. So the fact he decided to get involved with a fellow agent despite still probably having feelings for his wife who he thought at this point he'd never get to go back to is not that far fetched. It was only later when he began to consider leaving MIB that he began to get the idea of going back to her. He and O apparently stopped seeing eachother after MIB3 anyway.

3. MIB policy was clear, only MIB would know of the existence of aliens. Kay told J in MIB1 they didn't report to any branch of government because they asked to many questions. Hence, refraining from getting NASA involved.

However, your point about all kinds of aliens being on the planet, thus alien ships, and needing the Apollo 11 rocket to deploy the Arcnet is valid and one brought up a number of times.

He never had a wife, in the first movie it was a girlfriend who he never got to go out with due to being stopped by aliens.

you are right, this movie was TERRIBLY writen

Its just a movie. Just go in, expecting nothing more then a nice entertaining time. When you start analyzing movies for plot holes and annoyances your enjoyment is ruined.

It wasn't a fun movie to me, even without the nitpicking. I haven't seen it since my original post but even to this day I get a bad taste in my mouth when I think about it.
This movie is one of those where it's incredibly easy to find plot holes. But then again not all of the movies like that are bad. The Matrix is an easy movie to nitpick, but it's fantastic (mostly because of style, pacing, action etc.). Plot holes alone don't make me hate a film. And this film just didn't click with me at all. I couldn't enjoy it for one minute. And the fact that there's a plot hole for every second of the film is just an "icing" on the cake.

reply

Your plots holes are not plot holes. First of all he NEVER had a wife, it was a girlfriend who he actually never gets to start anything with because he runs into aliens. He ends up being divorced from her, I think she just represented what "could have been" to him. What characters backgrounds are different? Explain please?

reply

I honestly forgot. It's not the most memorable movie I've ever seen. And I stopped thinking about it right after posting that nitpicky post. I'll try to counter your arguments and answer your questions as best as I can (although I really don't care).
You are right that she wasn't his wife, just a girlfriend. Still, them getting together is what the first movie made us want. It's not just what could have been, it's exactly what happens at the end. Now we should just forget about what the payoff of the first film was?
The problem is that K acts very much out of character by dating this new woman. The first movie suggested that K skipped the date with the girl, completely abandoned his personal life by joining MIB, for years did nothing but worked (secretly wishing of quitting and getting back to the girl he abandoned). Where does O fits into this timeline?
I guess the first sequel *beep* up the sweet ending of the original enough to not care anymore and I guess it's possible that he was dating someone while working. BUT who wanted to see that? And who wanted to see K leave his happy life and get back to MIB? It just doesn't feel right, that's not how the character of K was presented in the first movie.
As for plot holes I honestly believe that there are so many of them in this movie that even watching MIB 3 in slow motion I could talk non stop about how nothing makes sense and not once run out of things to say. There are huge gaping plot holes, there are small little head scrathers, there are plenty and all kinds of them. It has to be one of the least sense making straight forward adventure films I've ever seen.

ONLY THEY ARE DIVORCED IN THE NEXT FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They NEVER went into details of his personal relationship in EITHER film. I think she was just a reminder of his past life and what could have been, he wanted to explore it and did but it ultimately didn't work out. The movie DOES NOT go into any real details. There are NO flashbacks of him "secretly" wanting to leave MIB and be with the girl. "

O" is a cool chick who he likes, it is clear they are good friends with a sexual connection, they are NOT in love, in love.

Please name the other plot holes.

dont quote me on this.. but if i recall.. from the first one, the WAS married (already). He then faked going into a coma, and she waited for him.

MIB was not established. He was not 'K' as SOON as he met the aliens. The rule about erasing your past had to be conceived, and then he had to agree to it.

This presents a time frame (probably quite a few years) where he continued to see her, married her, only to then have to say goodbye to her.

Granted..when you think of it this way, it was pretty poorly thought out, but well executed. As you pointed out, it was most likely just way to tell the viewers that there was a reason for him to retire and to present the happy ending.

The second movie just shat all over that. just one of the million reasons that movie was garbage.

reply

No. He was never married. Why do people make up sh!t!? The second movie still makes sense, think about it, that woman represented his "could have been life", she probably was never the right woman for him he just idolized her in his head. Like J points out he decided to work in a post office a breeding place for aliens.

reply

at the end of the movie a spinning newspaper shows them together with headline, "man exits 30 year old coma" or something along those lines...

why would she wait THAT Long if she wasnt married. You shouldn't come off so strong..you sound kinda stupid.

reply

You're really stupid, you do know that she could divorce him right? And if I am not mistaken she was married before and had divorced that guy. You're an idiot, she was NOT married to him you moron. Pay attention to the fricking movies.

This was an absolutell perfect closing to a series...l I can't remember being more surprised and impressed with a movie in a while.

They tied up tons of loose ends in a believablet way (mib believable). Any inconsistencies you find are inconsequential to the overall story.

I just rewatched this last night because my girlfriend hadn't seen it, but the only real issue I found was that the rules for the time jump affected J and Boris differently. Boris went back and there were two of him, J jumped back in time at the end of the film off the launch platform and it was as if he'd "rewound" what was going to happen.

The minor thing I have an issue with is the chick at the beginning who brought Boris the "cake", where was she from? She looks human, although surely she isn't. They should have done more to make her look alien.

( Also, no Frank, aside from the picture and the billboard .)

reply

I figured she was human. Considering they never told or showed us otherwise. Why did you assume she wasn't?
