Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is referred to as "Agent W" in this movie... but wait... MIB agents get their names based on the first letter of their FIRST name, not last...

What the hell, MIB 3? This flick was pretty good, but after watching the first film again I can't help but notice little inconsistencies like this.

Perhaps it can be their first or last names as in the name their better known as to most. Most would have called Andy Warhol Mr. Warhol surely so that stands to reason. We also don't know if Agent O was her last or first name, although more agents than not likely have their first names if that isn't confusing.

But Warhol is a fake person, it's not like the MIB hired a famous artist to be an agent, they had an agent undercover act as an artist named "Andy Warhol". So he wouldn't get any more respect than any other MIB agent.

It doesn't really matter in the end, but it just seemed like a weird thing that didn't have any good reasoning for it.

Come to think of it, you're right. Maybe it was just something he thought of right there to call him in case he didn't know what his true name was.

I thought that since MIB3 takes place in the early days of the agency, maybe agents' name were taken from last names, but it was switched to first names by the time we got to the era of the first film for lack of letters to use.

Andy Wharhol is a fake person.
Maybe the AGENTS real name was Will Smith, hence, Agent W.

I'm sure it also comes down to availability. I got the impression during the first movie the MiB was old. Between Kay and Dee and Zed, it seemed like most field operatives had been around since the early days of the MiB. I'm guessing the younger people working in headquarters weren't field agents with letter names like J, K, W, etc... Also Will Arnett played Agent AA, so it's hard to know exactly how the MiB comes up with names.

reply

It was never an established fact that agents were named for the first letter of their first name.

There are only 26 letters in the alphabet, so they would have to come up with other variations as well.
