criticism from someone who likes the movie

first of all the hyperbolic reaction to this is a sad case of over-nerdism... please stop you all look so stubborn and stupid

now i think this movie (like most other normal people)... i think it's pretty awesome... fun... exciting... has major drama and political intrigue etc... but one huge problem obviously... KHAN...

cumberbatch is terrific as always but how they use khan is a big no no

1) there is no bigger fan of space seed and wrath of khan than me... you don't cast a pale white guy as khan... yes montalban wasn't indian himself but this is just ridiculous

2) revealing him as khan 45 minutes into the movie not only put JJ in a spot about lying to fans but as a structure of star trek storytelling a big mistake... fans would have been way happier if it was not only known khan was coming but if he was revealed early on.

3) the super blood... it's actually a great idea... and if they had killed uhura or someone like that and used it on her we would have been like SHEEET... they just killed so and so... since it's an alt universe we would have believed it... but you don't pretend kill kirk... STUPID!!!!!!! who is gonna buy that?

4) i think the hate comes from these 3 things that all come together at the end with the mimicking wrath of khan in a corny almost comical repeat... i get what they were doing but it just doesn't work.

and don't complain about tiny honest trailer stuff... all films have small issues like that... but these parts are really i think what freaks the tiny angry fanbase out.

so i get the angst some fans have but can you please stop exaggerating... i wish they could fix these things but they can't. i think JJ knows as he's talked about these elements and some mistakes but it's still a fun well made flick.

this next one with simon pegg writing i really think will be a solid trek adventure... i hope it's more than what core fans want... i can't go back to those insipid tng kind of movies like generations and insurrection and nemesis... or even tmp or final frontier... in fact before JJ, half of the trek movies really sucked so i'm not sure what the fanbase core of nerds is pining for.

Thank you! Seriously hate Trekkies because of all their stupid nitpicking. I absolutely love Star Trek TOS, and most of the movies (NOT 5)...and Into Darkness wasn't bad, I had the same problems you said, but I am so tired of hearing it being voted the worst Trek movie out of all 12 by the fans. There's no way in hell its worse than Final Frontier, or a few others.

I think the biggest mistake JJ made was making Cumberbatch's character be Khan. He created a whole new timeline, so why recycle a character from the old timeline, especially one as revered as Khan? Add to that the Spock/Kirk sacrifice reversal at the end, which just came off as lay writing and you can see why this movie received so much criticism. Cumberbatch played a great villian, he just wasn't Khan!
