SO TERRIBLE. (Spoilers)

I'm watching it again here and I just can't understand how this script got greenlit. The rest of this rant is basically nothing but spoilers btw.

Portable transporters that work across multiple galaxies? Communicators that work instantly between galaxies?!? WHY EVEN BOTHER WITH STARSHIPS?

Magic blood of immortality?! Can Kirk even die now? Kirk's basically a full time werewolf now.

How is someone from 300 years ago supposed to wake up and immediately start designing and building next level weaponry and vehicles???? If we woke up a genius from 300 years ago, they'd design us a really neat cannon, not a satellite based death beam or something actually advanced. Kahn didn't even need a minute to catch up, he was instantly up on 300 years of advanced technology. Actually, why would the military of Kahn's time even want soldiers that smart? If they could be engineered for strength and reflexes, they could also be made relatively stupid and subservient, which is what their masters would want. It doesn't take a tactical genius to know that even if you COULD make a soldier like Kahn, you definitely SHOULD NOT.

Why the hell would Spock yell? About anything, ever? He sure as hell isn't going to belt out a 'KAAAAAHHHNNN!!!'

There's so much more, I just don't understand how this script was given the OK. The effects and production values in general are all top notch, but the story is absolute rubbish. Terrible, the worst, -1 of 10. Two teenagers and bong could definitely crank out a better script than this.

The acting is generally well enough but Cumberbatch was just awful. As others have noted and apparently the director originally wanted, Del Toro is who should have played Kahn.

Del Toro would have MADE that movie however stupid it is.

It got greenlit because the studio and film distributors were betting that Trekkie fans would see it no matter what and the younger generation would have NO IDEA about Khan.

This movie is one of the WORST rehashes that I've ever had to bear. The lack of originality is inexcusable. And the following one was pretty lame as well (won't waste time here on that mess...)

The movie has a plot hole?!?
EVERY FRIGGIN' MOVIE HAS A FRIGGIN' PLOT HOLE!!!!!

This is my favorite star trek movie of all time, the original wrath of Khan is garbage

You are totally on crack. Wrath of Khan was awesome. This movie was entertaining but lacked any originality at all. Magic blood to make the script work was a joke. To add to that they basically give spock kirks lines. You liked this more than Wrath then you are an idiot.

It kills me how utterly stupid it was. People think because it looked nice and had decent acting you should just forget how *beep* the script was. I could never figure out how they can wake someone up either who been sleep for 300 years and start building advance weapons and ships. WTF????? This is the best excuse you can make for having Khan show up? He obviously had no real reason to be there so someone on crack just said, "I know lets let him be a super genius who can now build stuff better than engineers who actually live in that period." Dont get me started on the portable transporter mess or magic blood. And turned Khan into a British white guy??? How many white people walking around London or Oxford with Khan Noonian Soong as their name? He should've just been a different character. And why was the Enterprise at the bottom of the ocean instead of just being above orbit again like every Starship ever made? And how did a big ass starship manage to come from the sky and dive into the water without being seen by anyone? WTF were these idiot writers thinking??????????????

And yes someone said 'Yeah *beep* it, you can make that'. Its like the people who wrote the movie didn't know anything about Star Trek. They watched a few episodes and just winged it. This film was an insult to Star Trek. These *beep* JJ Abrams movies just soiled everything that came before them. They shouldve had people who wrote Deep Space Nine make this movie. They can actually write real characters and deep stories without crap like a portable transporter.

I don't recall either of these happening. To the best of my recollections, everything in this movie happened within the same galaxy, and probably within a very small area of said galaxy, relatively speaking.

Unless I'm forgetting something.

Kahn's backpack transporter transported him between planets, I'm not really sure which galaxies the planets were in but that is a moot point, if you don't need a starship to get there why bother with them at all. It's a silly plot device and just comes across as lazy.

Scottie uses a communicator between vast distances, at least interplanetary, without any sort of lag, even though relatively close-together planets are still several light-minutes apart. What kind of cell phones do they have that transmit data faster than light? This wasn't relayed through a ship's communication system either, he was sitting in a bar talking into a cell phone. Again, just lazy writing, there were other ways they could have co-ordinated his actions there that would have made a lot more sense, like embedding a secret message into some other sort of data stream that only Scottie would know to decode, etc.

No argument about Khan's transporter, I was just nitpicking your distance claim (I'm sure which galaxy the planets were in). ;)

As for Scotty's communicator, subspace radio (faster-than-light) has been used since the original series. But I understand your point that something that portable would unlikely be powerful enough.
