Question about Vanp/Witch hybrids

Their siphoning abilities should make them the most powerful beings in the TVD/TO universe right? Or can they only siphon from their own vampirism once they change?

reply

They can siphon from anything but I guess not everything since they couldn't siphon the Phoenix Scar. It's kind of a plot hole because it's an OP ability unless you have a new mythology to back up why it can't siphon everything, which they don't.

It's just one example of why S7 was just garbage.

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

reply

We see them siphoning from things other than their own vampirism - the spell keeping Elena locked in her tomb, their own magic (Nora siphoned Caroline's vervain-cursed skin), etc. Technically, it should make them the most powerful beings and there should be a reason why they were locked up in a prison world and not just killed outright. They should be hard/ near-impossible to kill.

But this is TVD, remember? The showrunners never thing their own mythology through.

reply

I remember Nora telling Lily that they were the most powerful beings on the planet. Yea right! Enzo took down Nora and a powerless Bonnie took out Enzo. Rubbish!

It totally begs the question of why the coven put them in a prison world! Stefan and Valerie become sort-of boyfriend/girlfriend. Bonnie and Nora become besties. Mary Louise is a tragic figure. Oscar is genuinely funny. Malcolm is... well, he died without saying any actual lines. LOL. Beau was just offensive.

But basically they were all rather pathetic and easily dealt with. Why the heck did they have to evacuate a whole town?

The same thing happened with the hybrids. They are hyped up as the most powerful beings after Klaus - werewolves AND vampires. But then Jeremy Gilbert crossbows one and then chops off one's head as a pre-Hunter human. Stefan knocks off another's head without blinking. They all die in the same season.

It ended up begging the question that if all Klaus wanted was to raise an "army" of wimps who a teenage human could kill easily, why was there such a fuss about the moonstone or stopping Klaus from becoming a hybrid and making more? What was the point of all the schemes and counter-schemes of season 2/3? They could have easily let Klaus get his Ascension, and Elena could have been delivering him blood on a contractual basis - maybe for even a favour or two.

Seriously! They were not bad (well, maybe Lily the ripper was), but Malcolm, Oscar and Beau seemed like decent, nice guys, and the the girls were ultimately harmless. It begs the question as to why no one ever locked up Stefan and Damon.

reply

Malcolm and Beau were actually sticking to Lily's teetotaller regime. Oscar was fun, if you ignore the corpses in his hotel. The girls also settled into being relatively nice people after the first few episodes. Lily was a ripper - but she was also pulling a Stefan and trying to control herself. And she seemed to genuinely want peace/happiness for all. In fact as the story evolved, she was being painted as a basically good but weak-willed person.

It begs the question as to why no one ever locked up Stefan and Damon.

That's the problem with the show, really. The ripper of montreal never merited a prison world?
