I gave up half way through last season, it lost a lot of the charm it once had for me. Should I bother with this season or just go ahead and watch the final to see how it all wraps up?

I wouldn't miss the swansong. The heretics are gone, the last survivor now annoys the Winchester bothers.
It's only 16 episodes about the core team. And it is supposed to me more gory according to interviews.

Yes. The creators are claiming that it will be more like season 1. They only have 16 episodes, so they shouldn't have too much filler or pointless side characters.

Who wants to live forever?

This most recent episode was a very nice homage to the pilot in some parts so I'd definitely watch.

Oh well, it is the last season ever so I'd just watch it anyways even if its hate watch--for closure's sake lol.

i didnt watch season 7 at all but i figured i might give the farewell season a shot and i actually liked the first ep. however i wont go back to watch s7

Same! I don't think I need to see that season.I did check out that episode of seasin 8 and really enjoyed it.
