Seems likely there will be something cause it would be a really bad show finale to be like oh they are all damned bye bye. Perhaps they will just go down the destroying hell route but it would be nice to see redemption through a powerful source rather than just a get out of hell free card.

Even tho a barrier blocking news sounds ridiculous, you're actually onto a similar point: ever noticed how Mystic Falls is like, an ISLAND town???? In real life, your town is usually surrounded by other towns and there's highways that surrounds that and connects them by other means and with the rest of the state. All we ever see if like pastoral land, back roads, blue highways (aka 2 lane)....and Whitmore, which never seems the full 2+ hours away it should be.
I mean, don't get me wrong, all the town pride, knowledge, events, neighbor-knowing, none of that would have been possible if Mystic Falls wasn't on its own. It's just funny because any town in real life like that would be 200% backwoods HICK ;-D
