Going to say Tyler's death was only a dream

Upon rewatch, you notice the lighting is kind of dream like, and Sybil is consistently messing with Damon's mind. I read a theory earlier that maybe Damon pictures Tyler as his subconscious, he doesn't mention Elena by name, or Bonnie, or even Stefan. Tyler (Damons last bit of will) reminds him that he won't be forgiven, it'll wake him up at night. So, what if he killed Matts mom, and then next episode he apparently meets Matts dad, Peter, and kills him. In 8x05 the gang and Matt realize Damon just murdered his parents.

The reason I give this theory more thought is because Tyler is supposed to have actual information about beating Sybil. So, he shouldn't be dead. Especailly since

A: Julie Plec and co. Didn't RIP Tyler Lockwood all over social media.

B: we know how they like fakouts, cough* burning caskets cough*

But why would Tyler have a beard in Damon's dream? That's not how he remembers him right? I think it was real but I don't think Tyler's dead either. It was just so they could have a cliffhanger for that episode.

Well the beard wouldn't have anything to do with it lol, that's just cause Trevino has a beard.

Yes, I know but they could have easily made Trevino shave for the sake of continuity. They have always made him shave before when he was going to play Tyler. Plus we got to see the scene from Tyler's perspective as well when he pulls out a gun with his back turned against Damon.

That's what Tyler did to Damon last season though so Damon could have just thought that.

For sure but this just seems lazy given how easy it is to fix. But maybe that's expecting too much from them.

I agree. The coloring looked just like when Damon was remembering his first meeting with Elena. You can tell with the wording Tyler used "remember what you want. remember who you want" using no names. Also, Tyler wouldn't have egged Damon on like that.

and we know Trevino was filming two weeks ago

I'm really glad you wrote this. I was coming on here to rage about them killing off Tyler (why couldn't it have been Matt!) in such a throw-away way, but it not being real or somehow fixable makes more sense, especially with this show...

I'd like to hope that if they were really killing Tyler, they would at least give Trevino the decency of an episode arc...

While I don't think Tyler is dead. I also don't think Damon would dream about Tyler. Did Damon rip Tyler's heart out?,or only bite him? If Damon only bit him,then Tyler is alive. Werewolves can only die if you chop off their heads, or trip out their hearts.

As for everyone being mad at Damon for killing Tyler, and killing Tyler representing Damon being past the point of no return is a fail for 2 reasons.

1. Damon had tried (and failed) to kill Tyler on numerous occasions while his humanity was turned on.

2.Damon had done much worst. (Re: killed Elena's brother,killed pregnant lady)

Hybrids can only be killed by cutting off their heads or ripping out their hearts, werewolves are mortal with advanced healing so can die any way a human can die, other than a slow death that would give their bodies time to heal. Damon draining Tyler of blood would kill Tyler.

Then why did Damon have such a hard time killing Mason. He had to rip Mason's heart out. Tyler could die by Damon draining him, but he would not die right away. If someone get to Tyler in time he could be saved.

Damon didn't know how or what could kill Mason, no one knew about werewolves yet.

I seem to recall Damon stabbing Mason in the heart with a silver knife and it didn't have any affect on him. That would have killed a human.
