shareStefan just got told last episode he's destined for Hell, he's died by drowning thousands of times repeatedly, he got sent to the Phoenix Stone, he's been killed, he was forced into giving up his girlfriend and brother, had his brain fried multiple times, he's suffered a lot more than Caroline. He hasn't been unpunished or excused. The only he really got "excused" was in S6 for messing with Matt and Tyler.
