I'm confused, ever since Damon went into the vault he's been un Damonlike, he's so bland and weak, not the schemer who always has a plan, or the guy who would sacrifice himself for the people he loves.
He's totally different, there's no spark at all.

I think Damon is like that because he is under the control of the siren. Even when Sybil told him he was free,he discovered that he wasn't. He was still under her control and influence.

It's weird though, in the last ep he seemed so desperate, yet, he didn't kill Matt at Tyler's funeral and was begging Them to stop trying to save him, next he's begging Stefan to help him.
Also, it seemed like he was trying to give them clues, told Stefan to meet him at the carnival where Seline took the twins, also in season 2 carnival ep, that's were he showed Stefan that Mason was a werewolf... don't know if that matters.
What he said to Rick was kinda strange also, about Rick knowing them better than they know themselves. That might be a reference to Cade, he could read the villagers minds?
All speculation.
