Rank the Actors

Rank the acting of the show from the main actors.

Nina Dobrev (yes, she can be horrible and Elena was a pain in the ass post s3, but Katherine was an incredible character and we have Nina to thank. I also think Nina was good in s1-2)
Candice Accola-more so from seasons 2-5, because now she's just annoying, but whatever, her highs still count as she hasn't checked out of the show like Ian and Paul.

Matthew Davis--he can be bland but I've never been disappointed
Kat Graham--I don't think Kat ever got to reach her full potential on the show and she's often repetitive, but like Davis, I've never been disappointed
(Huge gap)

Ian Somerhalder--I've never found his delivery funny or his character sympathetic, but he's a good villain when the show writes him as one.
Michael Trevino- s2-3. He's a one note actor but the Tyler arc in s2-3 was portrayed quite well.
Paul Wesley--dude stopped trying in season 5, and now he's painfully void of ANY emotion. If it weren't for his recent failures, he'd be at the top of my list for seasons 1-3
Zach Roerig--no charisma, no chemistry, no depth. He should have been written off in season 1.

A rose is just a rose.

Best overall? Nina for sure. Katherine and Elena were so different that I forgot it was the same actress. And she played all of their variations well (vamp elena, human katherine, kat pretending to be elena, etc.

2. Candice. Candice is understated, but she has been the most consistent over the years, I have never felt like she stopped trying like the others did. Plus she sold that vampire pregnancy *beep* so she wins for me.

3. Paul Wesley. Sometimes he really shines, but it is obvious he does not try anymore.

4. Ian. Ian is more consistent than Paul, but I think Paul's highs have been higher.

5. .Zach R. I like Matt and I can feel his pain fromthe screen.

6. Matt Davis. Meh, does the job.

7. Kat G. Shouldn't have been an actress, but she has markedly improved over the years. Her crying scenes are good.

8. Trevino. I bought the character of Tyler but he never wowed me.

9. Mcqueen (Jeremy). Bought him as the little brother but most of his onscreen acting decisions were not great.

Oh man I totally forgot about McQueen! I agree w your ranking of him, he's most definitely the worst of the bhnch. Horrible at crying, very cringe worthy for any emotional scene, not funny and not charming.

I'd also agree about Kat. I don't see her as an actress.

Reoccurring:

1. Chris Wood (by a margin)
2. Joseph Morgan
3. Claire Holt
4. Jasmine Guy
4. Woman who played Lily Salvatore
5. Woman who played Sarah Salvatore

I would rank Nina highest. She has incredible range, and was just enjoyable to watch.
Matt Davis. Always on point, but a little disappointing he has so little to do this season.
Kat Graham. Amazing actress. Does the absolute best even with very little.
Joseph Morgan. Just LOVE HIM.

Paul Wesley. He has had some really strong showings. I'm rewatching again, and on season 5. He is very good at playing Silas, sometimes chilling.
Ian Somerhalder. Always consistent, even if sometimes he's a bit campy. But I was a huge Lost fan, so he's always been a bit of a fave of mine.
Zach Roerig. He's always been consistent as well.
Micheal Trevino. His acting got better after season 2.

Candice Accola. Don't get me wrong I adore her, but I feel like she's a weaker actress than the others.
Steven R McQueen. Also not as strong, but still enjoyable to watch.
Micheal Malarkey. He has gotten much more comfortable on the show to watch, but was a little cringey in season 5-6.

The worst was Sara Canning. Just awful, but maybe because I really disliked Jenna as a character.

Hot guys + dark subject matter + plenty of violence = watchable television.

Nina, incredibly shined range wise on this show. Her variations and different cadences, walk patterns, expressions etc. is astounding.

Paul, he doesn't try much anymore but when he does, he gets his. In "I Went To The Woods" he showed he could steal the screen still,

Trevino, I'm sorry but this guy sold Tyler to me so great it's unreal, and he showed he had a little range with Julian the passenger.

Ian, was great in S1, has been campy ever since unless he's emotional, he was was great in Season 2, 5, and 7 when they let him show his emotional range.

Kat, when she shines she shines BIG. Like in Season 6 and parts of 7, but before that she was weak on screen.

Candice, sells me Caroline like its nothing and has emotional range.

Matt, great with some of his emotional stuff otherwise not that impressing.

Zach, you can feel his pain sometimes, like literally.

Malarkey, actually he's Better than Zach when he wants to be.

Steven, worst of the bunch, decent at emotional stuff.

If we're counting reccurring took though Joseph Morgan is defitnely the best actor to touch this show/CW.

reply

I think every single one of the main character actors have improved greatly since S1, the co stars I thought were really good, the actress that played Jenna, she was awesome, Kai, awesome also, and I had to hate Uncle John, that's good acting, Klaus, and
Rebecca. Kol. Yup him too

We're all on our way out, act accordingly.

reply

Honorable mention, Carol Lockwood!

1 Nina as Katerina Petrova
2 Candice, especially when she's having a hissy fit.
3 Daniel Gillies, I like him better on TVD.
4 Joseph Morgan.
5 Claire Holt.

HM: guest stars Melinda Clarke, Mia Kirshner and Jack Coleman.
