Feel like the big twist 'ah hah' moment is

Damon saw multiple people he knows in Hell when got a look at it, including his Mom, Rose, Katherine, Vicki, among others. He's been acting like he's scared of Hell to sell it and killed Tyler because he knows where he's going, he'll try to replace the Sirens as Cades loyal servant and turn on him and save all the dead folk. I mean Damon is their hero in this story, I don't see how were going through the final season with him destroying the entire group.

I think you are dead on. Maybe he even killed Tyler to have him help him in Hell.

Yup, Julie's already stated they had plans to bring mutliple old characters back. It's 5 episodes in and we've only seen Tyler, who hasn't been gone long.

Damon is the hero in this story . I believe that your theory has merit, Damon/Bonnie/or Stefan always save everyone at the end.However,Sybil knows that if Damon goes to hell that Stefan will do everything that he can to bring him back.

Plus by having Damon/or Stefan exploring hell is a nice way to bring back past characters for the series finale.

I think Damon saw, Stefan Caroline , Elena, Alaric, Bonnie, Enzo, Matt, in hell, that would make way more sense.
No wonder he's so desperate for them to let him go.

He himself isn't more determined for them to let him go, Sybil is. He's carrying out her will right now, (at least we think).

I think Damon is conflicted, maybe losing his soul, last ep he was back and forth with let me go at the funeral and save me at the carnival , he was definitely heartbroken when he killed Tyler.
Actually I am convinced that Damon would never give up.

No, Delena at least will have a happy ending with stand ins dancing on the street.

Damon is the hero of the story? Disagree it's at least both Salvatores

I'll say it is sometimes, like in S1, and 2. Besides that Damon shines in all big storylines and problems. He fought Alaric in S3 and couldn't get to Elena, he fought the Five ghosts in S4 and almost died, he blew up The Travelers in S5, and he somehow killed Heretic Kai in S6 and saved Bonnie. Oh, he also went into The Vault solo and saved Bonnie again. Damon is THEIR hero, Julie and Co.'s hero.

Stefan is the overt hero, Damon is the anti-hero/unsung hero.
I'm losing faith in the theory that Damon is somehow fighting behind the scenes. I think that what they are trying to do is take Damon down as far as they can to make him fight for himself and his friends because he wants to for himself and his friends and NOT for Elena. This Damon has given up for now, but he will come come back fighting harder and stronger than ever before.
It's garbage because Damon has fought for others before but this team of writers seem to want to take Damon down a hundred paths of redemption before he finally gets his peace or HEA.
Like you said Taylor, Damon has shone many times and this story has been told before but it seems the the writers are not done with Damons' redemption storyline and seem to want to keep retelling it but from slightly differing angles.
I get why fans are tired of this story, I'm a Damon fan and I'm tired of this story. They need to bang a different drum or beat a new dead horse and focus on the other brothers' redemption story for a change. Now that would be an interesting prospect considering Stefan has yet to face actual consequences for his Ripper binges both forced and chosen and has been sorely neglected in the narrative so far. I mean Lily was imprisoned for over a Century for her Rippahhhh(sorry can't help it) escapades by the Gemini coven, what did Stefan get? Oh, I know, a life of guilt, remorse, furrowed brows and the loss of one of 5 epic loves. IMO those are not consequences but a given, what about the rest?
