Official thoughts on Detoured on Some Backwoods path to Hell

SPOILERS!!!!!! HOLY *beep* WHAT AN EP

But, seriously really good episode with mini flaws, up there with 8x03 for best of the season.

Everyone coming together for the kids was great.

Caroline's cutting Stefan out was indeed valid, because of Damon. Although giving him the ring was a little much.

Alarics Liam Neeson speech was great but the follow through was him running in circles all day.

Damon and Sybil and Seline was boring. I'm guessing the girls felt safer though as last time they saw Damon he was welcome in their home.

Alright here I go, WHY THE *beep* DOES STEFAN CARE ABOUT ENZO AND WHY DOES ENZO ACT LIKE HE CARES ABOUT STEFAN TRUSTING SYBIL!!! WHERE WAS THEIR DEVELOPMENT CAN I PLEASE GRAB SOME CONTINUITY JESUS CHRIST!

Every word uttered by Bonnie this episode I believe was about Enzo. Highly annoying.

So I seen the twins as replacements coming, but I didn't see The Salvatore Brothers being the Devils servants, I can't wait for it.

Matt praising Enzo makes little sense but they had that one deleted scene so I'll let it slide.

Alaric throwing truth at Caroline and Caroline throwing some back was harsh but I mean it was bound to come out sometime.

Stefan and Enzo's mind stuff was all about Sybil and I kind of wanted them to get some development, great seeing Alaric say "fry his brain though" although, Enzo did try to bargain for his kids.

Stefan fighting a crowd of folk was awesome. Hell, that's first good Stefan fight since him and Damon vs Julian.

I thought Stefan was already damned though why did he have to kill someone?

Also a little annoyed how no one uttered a quick thank you to Stefan or even a little acknowledgement from Alaric to Enzo.

Stefan brings out the kids and Alaric doesn't utter a word, neither does Caroline actually.

Bonnie doesn't thank Stefan for saving Enzo either btw I know for sure Enzo won't say *beep* He's bout serve Cade and Bonnie and Caroline won't say anything, even though he saved who they were crying for all episode.

We end this episode with Alaric and Matt killing Damon, like yes, actually jumping and killing him.

Surprisingly Alaric doesn't mention Damons was his best friend or anything like that, which is ridiculous since that's all he ever spits about him.

Matt should've been the one to stake him and say "this is for Tyler" tf.

Anyway, kudos to Paul Wesley. Amazing shots and nice location picking. I don't know if he's a Manson fan or not but also nice use of "The Nobodies".

9/10 episode for me. The FINAL mid-season finale next week! And SPOILER!

Damons alive and Stefan dies! Guess they can't die!

reply

Yep, I agree with many points especially the lack of thank yous but lets remember that this was Damons' plan, this was the loophole that JP was talking about. Damon found it and exploited it.. Stefan came along for the ride and got the hero worship from Caroline while Damon got a stake. Sounds about right for this show, but hey!
It would't be TVD if Damon were credited for anything.

👆The eternal hero, failure story, over and over and over.........
But I really liked the ep. Crazy pants fun!

We're all on our way out, act accordingly.

reply

I don't think Stefan recognized his plan as fighting for the twins because Damon kept specifically calling it a "get out of hell free card".

reply

He got credited for S5, but, besides that. I am tired of everyone acting like this is Damon of his own free will just turning and burning the group alive. He is obviously under the thrall of Sybil and now Cade. He is also indeed in this situation because he chose to save Bonnie. Which I'm very surprised no one has metioned this season and acted like he somehow was just abducted at a random time.

reply

Btw, Damon's plan (man with the plan again) Moment was nice, I think he did it for the twins too and Hell in not sure

Also, does anyone think Stefan and Damon will get new powers from Cade? This will be more than just Damon and Enzo killing spree, they're taking Sybil and Selines place I assume they should be able to see-visit Hell.

reply

Well, besides the sneak peak for next week showing Damon alive...he can't be dead because if he dies, all his sire line does too-including Caroline! I can't even imagine that kind of screwed up situation!

reply

Damon is not an original vampire, therefore those he sired do not die with him. Cade has given him immortality, like he did the sirens.

reply

Amazing episode, they should have Paul (and Ian for that) direct more. That was dark and gritty and IIRC even without a Steroline make out scene.
Amazing and nuanced acting by Candice, when she gave up the kids and then had to renounce her June wedding.
Of course nobody bought Ian's death, so that scene was stupid, especially with the promo showing him alive and kicking and killing Stefan.
Only 10 episodes to go 

I feel like Ian and Paul put everything they got into directing, really shows they have a future when TVD ends.

I wonder how Caroline will take the news that Stefan is dead... I can't stand her right now, she didn't have to give him the ring back that was "over the top". I understand b/c Damon that she was upset and him being Stefan's brother that Caroline didn't know what Stefan would do - like not try to save the children over his brother. Stefan wanted to save the children, he's had enough of Damon's crap b/c he's not even TRYING to turn his humanity back on and/or fight the sirens controlling him and he killed Tyler.. BUT sorry Caroline giving Stefan the ring back was just plain stupid, you sure didn't give him any hope or have faith in him that he would choose the children over his "gone pecan brother" Damon. Caroline is a lot to blame that Stefan gets killed, she broke his heart before he even went into the "war zone" - wow Caroline and I use to love Caroline/Stefan together. I'm glad Alaric gave her that talk about HIS children and as much as I adore/love Alaric he needs to leave w/his little girls and NEVER return I think Jo would want him to do that (you know the REAL mother of those children, seems like the writers have forgotten about her). I could give a rats ass if anything happens to Caroline now especially the way she treated Stefan, its like she's blaming him for what Damon is doing; which is NOT fair at all. Once she gave him that ring back I was DONE w/ever "shipping" them again, Caroline didn't even give Stefan a chance before he went to save Alaric's children. That is who they are Alaric/Jo's children.. Sorry so long just disappointed in how this show's direction is going for its FINAL GOOD-BYE so far the writing sucks !!

***I sure as hell hope my other show Pretty Little Liars which is also ending won't be as disappointing as this POS show TVD has become. I have HOPE PLL will have a decent send off. TVD writers suck and don't know what to do w/this show anymore, and the siren story line sucks along w/Cade.

reply

Caroline putting her "adopted" children over Stefan was wrong but it ties in with what Bonnie said recently and what we learned about Stefan in the past, Care had to assume Stefan would do anything to save his brother bc of his codependency.
Alaric said harsh words, too. He took it back, so did Care, and she took the ring back; people make mistakes and I actually like it that she isn't a flawless Mary Sue.

She doesn't take Stefan's death very well as of the promo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBi7GJxX_F0 but I still believe everything is part of Damon's masterplan.

She doesn't take Stefan's death

He is not dying permanently, right?

They wouldnt kill him in the middle of season. If he were to die permanently I would think that will happen in the last episode...

Is he going to hell? Maybe we get to see him and Katherine?

It echoes the way they've treated Damon, it's beyond Stefans control, he has to do the right thing and gets hated for it.
Like Cade, telling the villagers about their real selves and gets burned at the stake for it.
It's turning into the crusfifiction of Damon and or Stefan.
Alaric, killing Damon, Caroline dumping Stefan, they are all turning their backs on each other.
Bonnie is feeling guilty for letting Damon go but yet has to save Enzo.
Impossible choices, but ones that have to be made.
A "Sophie's Choice".

reply

Of course Bonnie's only purpose and meaning has become Enzo this season. Don't even think that she is attending the Christmas Dinner/party the next episode and most likely they will say that she is isolated somewhere worried about Enzo.

reply

Yeah I could deal with it when Enzo was under the sirens control but it's getting tired some.

reply

You tear the ep apart and then give it a 9! Very forgiving. Too forgiving.

The best scenes were the last couple. A pissed off Matt and a pissed off Alaric are an awesome team. Too bad the next scene will be Damon pulling out the stake and laughing in their faces.

The rest was a mush of soap and a couple interesting moments with Alaric who actually said to Stefan to turn Enzo's brain into "oatmeal" if he had to. And yes the sudden buddy scene with Matt over him was odd as Matt never really had much interaction with Enzo.

Poor writing sank the ep. I'd give it a 5.

As a side note, Ian said in a recent interview that both Damon and Stefan share to blame for every terrible thing that has happened in Mystic Falls since Stefan moved back home. Not just Damon, but Stefan as well. They both ruined the life of an innocent girl, killed most of her friends or made them monsters, burned her house down, and now she lies in a somnambulist state in a coffin somewhere on NYC! He said they both deserve to be killed off!

reply

Actually, Matt and Rick are losing their humanity, Damon and Stefan are holding on to theirs by a thread to save the twins.
As far as ruining Elena's life goes, she burned her house down and her fathers torture filled journal.
Elena's"friends" are still alive, and she sleeps in a coffin because she was willing to wait in order for her friend to live her life.
None of that is Damon or Stefans fault.

We're all on our way out, act accordingly.

reply

Tell it to Ian. Just paraphrasing what he said and how he feels about the Salvatore brothers. The point he makes is none of these terrible things would have happened had the Salvatore's not come back to Mystic Falls. Directly or indirectly they destroyed Elena's life, and as Matt once said, everyone he knew was dead (or vamped which is, lest we forget, being an animated corpse).

reply

I agree with all of this and what Ian said.

------Pulling someone down will never help you reach the top -----

reply

It also occurred to me that Alric wanting his children to have a normal life is pretty impossible considering he had been dead, then brought back where which he became a vampire, then cured and human again (no he did not take the liquid cure potion that apparently Damon has been or was holding on to awaiting Elena's awaking. It had to to when Mystic Falls was deadly to vampires to even step in and he went to the brink of death only for Jo or someone to bring him out of actually dying again and, oh dear I am getting a headache! lol). Toss in their mom was a witch and they were surrogate birthed by a dead person! AND they themselves have magical powers akin to Kai! How are to not attract crazy?

That the siren found them had zero to do with Caroline being a vampire; it had to do with whatever glow or signal these kids emit. So blaming Caroline, and even her blaming herself, was wrong. These kids were "marked" for a life of supernatural events before they were born.
