He's the first psychic, basically radiates a form of magic from his own soul.
shareI hope they provide some explanation. The show sets up all these rules, limits and red tapes for magic that are some times tossed out the window. It reminds of how there was no explanation on how Qetsiyah and Silas created the Immortality spell. Cade can manipulate souls and grant immortality with seemingly no effort and he is a psychic. On a power scale witches seem like they would be the strongest.

Well from the hint we got last episode, Witches seem to be an extension of a psychic. Silas was feared from all so much he became a myth to everyone but Kol, I think we never really got to see Silas' full extent of his psychic power, he had to consume blood to fuel himself, Cade seems to consume Souls. Soul maybe more power than blood, both sources of life. I assume this is how it works and why Cade is considered The Devil and the strongest villain we've seen yet. He can literally manipulate reality. This really how can only be explained. I agree about the immortality spell, but they cut the Silas/Tessa/Amara arc short to throw Damons Augustine plot front and Center before the Mid-season Finale.
